I had a nasty experience with Dell (resulted in returning a 4600/1703FP for full refund) and am considering others, one being "Micron" (currently have their P2 166 MHz from 1997, no problems whatsoever). Anyone with recent experience with them ?

Looking at (general home / web use):
Milennia 920i (Xtreme)
P4 3.0 GHz
512 MB
120 GB 7200 RPM
nVidea FX5200 (may consider another)
NEC LCD 1760NX (from other source)

Is there another manufacturer worthy of our business?

On another forum subject someone suggested building my own, any good source of info/guidance? Would the learning curve be worth it for a one-time event and minimal future upgrades?

Thanks in advance !

I have a Micron from about two years ago, and it has been great, no problems and still going strong (Athon 1.2 GHz, 640 MB 266MHz DDR). Customer service was great. I bought it when they were micronpc, I believe they have changed hands again as now they simply go under MPC, so I don't know how much weight to put on my experience.

Thanks for the info. I just checked with MPC to determine the manufacturer of the components (mobo, graphics). Didn't recognize either one (mobo: Intel 875P chipset from Aurora or Cascade). They couldn't identify the graphics card maker. After gathering info on THG, I think it's best to find a company using "name brand" components vs. "lesser ones". Unfortuneately, it seems none of the larger ones use the recognized better components - very frustrating and I need to make a decision and not drag out the process, but also want to buy from a reputable firm.
