Apple makes fantastic hardware and OS for both macs and handhelds. You can't really argue that. The problem is its all a closed environment.

If someone can take the time to make a refined environment and hardware platform to match Apple and then make it open to developers they can win.

Microsoft beat Apple back in the 80s/90s just by having an open platform, it can be done again.

Most people buy Macbooks because they are pretty, but most importantly, they can run Windows. Everybody I know uses macs to get to windows either virtualized or with boot camp. So, maybe his is just a fashionista !

I think he's right! The man's a visionary - just not at the level of Steve Jobs... But then again, who is.

somebody should tell him apple computers are now ALL pc's.
either he just bought alot of stock in apple or his new flame only dates guys who have icrapple products.

Well he has a point that Apple makes a whole comprehensive... experience. They offer so many things and they make sure it all works together relatively seemlessly. I think that's great. But, I like to tinker. And Apple is NOT tinker friendly.

In the end, Microsoft is mainly a software company while Apple is primarily a hardware maker

When talking about computers; if by "hardware maker" you mean they use commonly available hardware not dissimilar to that available in your PC, slap it in a pretty looking box and mark up the price significantly, then yes.

That said, I can agree with him with regards to the gadget market, where Apple is indeed ahead of the game. But Macbooks? They are ok, but definitely not Apple's flagship of innovation.

One reason I admire Apple is because the company is innovative. True it is not perfect and Apple has its fair share of issues but overall a very good company. This is more evident in the last 10 years with Apple becoming more of a consumer electronics business. With great designs, software, and App store model. Article mentioned that HP "could have done it" but HP didn't. Apple did!

so everyone should use a mac because they look pretty? Im not sure why he recommended them, they dont seem to offer anything that a PC cant, and they cant compete with the cost either..

For many users, the Mac OS has just as much function that they're looking for as a Windows. Plus it has some nice form! :)

Apple doesn't "make" hardware. They just use other people's technology and wrap it with a pretty ribbon. They sell hardware a generation behind (which costs less) at a price higher than the current generation. But hey, at least it's shiny, right ? Oooh, shiny. It makes me sick.

Taken out of context it seems if he said to use macbooks instead of pc laptops. I'm going to assume he meant that pc makers could have gone to the more stylish look of a macbook in their own pc format. I also think that he thinks execs should pursue more stylish or futuristic or artsy tech products because they are execs and should have the best of the best. I don't think he really wants execs who currently use pc laptops to drop 'em for apple's OS and macbooks.

Ok maybe he said that because executives are morons who can't understand the complexity of his companies operating system. So tired of the spin. I think lots of people are tired of this massive assault. I think we are having an American Idol Sanjay moment...
