I had a MSI 845 board in one computer. That one shorted out. Long
story.
Got a MSI 865PE NEO-2 board in a new case with a serial drive.
I put my old IDE HD in has as IDE master, did a Windows repair
install and it seem to work find, got back to work. A couple programs
had to be reinstalled.
But I cannot boot to that drive with the ATA config, in bios, set to
either PATA or SATA with Native and any variety of other settings.
If I set it as PATA and SATA (with Legacy) it will boot but the bios
won't recognize the secondary HD controller.
IN boot I can the first Windows splash screen for a second or so and
then ir recycles back through the boot process.
But if I boot to the Serial drive with SATA set, the controller can be
seen.
I cleared the CMOS but no change.
Wrote the MSI, nothing.
What Im down to is that many the repair install left over something
that it hanging up booting into that drive.
