Hey peeps,

Will the MSI 970 Gaming motherboard run ok, with no bottlenecks, with the MSI GTX 970, 16GB Vengeance 1600, and the AMD 8370E processor?

Also processor wise, which would be the better option for gaming at a good standard?

Thanks

Tom

Yes, it is a nice Motherboard will handle OC very nicely.
However if you haven't bought all the parts yet then I'll recommend an Intel Build.
But if you've decided to stick to AMD then get FX-8350 or 8370. They'll perform better than 'E'.

Ok great ty, unfortunately Ive already bought most of the parts, the processor is the only part i havent, ive been reading reviews on how the 8370 would overheat without a good cooling system, Ive got only the standard amd cooler atm and don't really have the money to splash out on the processor and cooler. Even with the 8350 because of its 125w im guessing I'd run into heating issues, the 95w E version just seemed better for cooling, do you think it would really bottleneck at all? and playing things like battlefield 4 etc at ultra would i see much difference?

thanks for your reply btw :)

the e version is lower wattage because it is slower to save power and heat. that's how they save the watts. if your not going to oc the cpu, the stock cooler will do fine for an 8350. once your ready to oc it, then get a better aftermarket cooler to cover the new heat requirements. no worries about the cpu blowing up or anything.

enjoy your new setup

I'll recommend to get an aftermarket cooler regardless of what CPU you pick as AMD stock fans doesn't cool as near as the amount of noise they produce.
The 'E' version is slower than the other thus lower power consumption. And yes, bottlenecks are possible and will happen at some point especially on 'E' as it is slower which can be easily resolved by overclocking, which why you should go for the 8350 or 8370 as they will overclock better and possibility of bottleneck is less as they are faster.

Great thank you, I've decided now to get the H100i water cooler and the FX-8350, can't see any difference between the 8350 and 8370 except the L2 cashe's ones 2x4mb and ones 8mb, whether that makes enough difference for the extra cost i have no idea, so i played safe 😀. Thank you all for your advice.

oh my god the misinformation here!!!!! - the 8370e is considered the best out of all the amd 8 cores now... probably better than the original 9590's... it's a 3rd revision with less power leakage.. mine runs 4.7ghz @ 1.4 volts on a 970chipset board and some review sites are reporting even much less voltage (probably better motherboards) which in turn means less heat and more stability!

(but i see 5ghz in your signature ... must be doing well with it, but i imagine from my experience with 2 fx chips it requires alot of voltage for that)

me too .. highly ... but i've seen some good reviews on this board and maybe this is the comeback msi needed after a ton of miserable failures on the fx line motherboards...

also - maybe the 8350's have been revised now as well ? haven't checked on this .. too lazy :)
