MSI bios update issues

I have a FM2 a75ma-e35 MSI board with A10 5800K CPU. Do I need to update to an earlier bios version before updating to the latest? I've been trying to update it through M-Flash and it sees the USB drive but when I click it, it says that there isn't any bios files on the drive. I also ran the exe file in windows and it restarted my PC but nothing happened. What am I doing wrong? I currently have bios v1.7. Please help. Thanks.

Is your USB drive formatted with FAT32, because it needs to be.

Also, why are you updating the BIOS. if you aren't having any issues with the current one don't upgrade as it is quite risky and could potentially mean complete motherboard loss.

Yes it is formatted to FAT32. I've had a particular problem for a while now and have searched the internet to find that I need to update bios to fix the issue.

Once you're out of the bios, do a hard shut down then remove the CMOS battery after switching off the PSU switch. Then hold the power button for 15 seconds and reinsert the battery. Reboot the system and reformat the USB drive with FAT32 and put a fresh re-downloaded bios onto it. If it doesn't work after that let me know.

Okay, I did that and it still doesn't see the bios file.

Can you try and plug into the rear usb 3.0 port please. If this doesn't work, if you have one can you try another usb drive.

I figured it out. I couldn't get M-Flash or MSI auto updater to see the bios file no matter what I did, so I search for alternatives and discovered AFUDE. It's a DOS based bios flash tool that worked like a dream. Thanks anyways.
