I have a simple question that is probably noobish because I'm not very good with power supplies.

I was installing an MSI Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 card, until I came to a halt with a 6 pin connector problem. According to the manual, there should be 1 6+2 pin slot and 1 6 pin slot, but there were only 2 6 pin slots instead of one of them being a 6+2 pin slot. So, I got stuck and didn't want to experiment and possibly shock my graphics card. If you have any explanation please tell me below.

Thanks.

this is a 6+2

this can be used as either a 6-pin or a 8-pin, by connecting only the 6 and leaving the 2 loose, or all 8 at the same time.

a good power supply will have 2 of these, or two 6-pin's

a gpu will have two 6-pin slots, or a 8-pin and 6-pin, or two 8-pins, or a single 8-pin or single 6-pin

(even same models of a card can have different plugs)

a 6+2 can be used as a 6-pin OR 8-pin

If your power supply does not have the required connectors then you need to upgrade your power supply

That seems to be the one. The manual must have been, like you said a general installation guide.

yeah its kind of like when you get a manual for your car one manual covers every variation/spec rather than print different manuals for them all to save costs

thats fine as long as they make it clear thats the case
