Hi everyone, I've always been more of a lurker but decided to finally register and get help!

First here's my build:
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/b/MxM[1]

This is my power supply: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_442&item_id=039398[2]

I recently replaced an Asus motherboard and an i5-2500k. After installing the new stuff, it was all good for a week, but then I decided to order the Noctua fan and replaced the HAF i/o panel (one of the usb ports had broken on the old one). Ever since then I've had the following issues:

1. Mobo gets A2 error on boot and hangs. To fix this, I have to unplug the graphics card completely and run onboard graphics instead
2. Mobo hangs if I click the hardware profile button (which tells me fan speeds and allows me to adjust them).
3. Mobo also hangs if I try to update bios (its already on latest version though, but still it won't even let me try).
4. Yesterday it was going past the A2 error (with graphics plugged in), but it would then give a boot error "Reboot and select proper Boot device."
5. Mobo lists bootable media in order at the top, but has a '??' under it, as if it is not sure what each media is? Not sure if thats normal or not.

I'm using it right now, but I have to do option 1 to get into win 8, and it doesn't remove the other mobo errors.

By the way I didn't re-install windows 8 after changing mobo and processor, not sure if that is part of the problem.

Thanks guys!

Sorry Kind of a necro, But the question never received a proper answer. I have the identical board to op, Just spend 6 hours pulling my hair out over this.

Finally figured out if i unplugged all of the cases usb connectors and all of my usb devices the mobo would boot every time.

Solution was to disable ehci hand off options under Advanced>Usb settings.

I got this A2 error this morning as well but came about it a bit differently.

Used OC Genie in the MSI mobo BIOS to overclock my Pentium g3258 from the stock 3.2ghz to 3.9ghz. Simply changed it from auto to 39. Been working fine for months.

This morning I decided to up the frequency a little bit to 4.2 to fix some stuttering in one of my games. After going in the bios and changing it from 39 to 42 and rebooting I get the A2 error code.

Had to remove CMOS battery (under GPU so it's kind of a pain) after I did that it started fine. Went into BIOS OC from stock 3.2 back to 3.9, reboot, no problems. Try again changing from 39 to 42, reboot and get A2 error.

Can't offer a solution, but thought it was interesting and worth noting if you're getting the A2 error and recently tried to OC.

Hi guys, I am so sorry for not responding sooner.
My PC is running beautifully.

I still get the A2 and a 9C code when booting, must be something to do with the boot.
My issue has been resolved thanks to Nanodog, they tested a 500w power supply from Corsair and had no issues for 24hrs
It seems although the raidmax says 850 it might not be what it says it is or it was never meant for intel core i7's.
I bought a Cougar 850watt PSU from them and have had no resets/restarts/power loss what so ever.

What power supplies does everyone have? Name Brand or Cheapy's?

Kind Regards,
Tony081

Hi!!!!!! I just had the exact problem the OP was complaining about on my MSI motherboard (an H81M-P33 (MS-7817)) earlier tonight and i thought my motherboard was corrupt. ( I'm new here and you saved my life i thought my motherboard was toast fortunately i checked on my phone and found your solution and tried changing 1 sata port with my SSD and it booted up just fine. THANK YOU THANK YOU
1 question though. I still feel kind of leery about
MSI should i replace the board just in case or is MSI generally trustworthy over the long haul????
Thanks - David

I have also had the same error.
I have had my pc for over a year and when it started up 9c and a2 would show up for a few seconds and then it would boot but this morning after gaming on it last night and shutting it down I woke up to an Msi error code 71 and the screen saying: Boot Guard Verified Dxe that failed. I reset the Cmos using both the battery and the button without any results and started up my alternate bios. I used M Flash to try and flash the bios but the screen asking me to switch the bios didn't come up so I just allowed it to update the current bios. I retried the process and this time it did pop up and I switched Bios after updating it allowed me to open the bios and it had updated. So when I exited the bios and rebooted the original screen saying that the dxe had failed popped up. I restarted again and now my computer hangs on A2. I have tried removing ram, my disk drive and my hdd leaving only my ssd which contained the os plugged in.

My rig is:
I7 4790k
Msi z97 gaming 7
Msi Gtx 970
Corsair cx750m
Samsung evo 128gb
Corsiar vengeance 16gb RAM
Stock Intel cpu fan

My A2 error was coming from my Fanatec force feed back racing steering wheel. if i left the wheel powered on and reboot, it wont boot, it just hangs on black screen with A2 bottom right. the second I turn off the wheel the PC finishes booting. Sounds weird but its true. Im on a MSI Z87 Xpower, I7 4770K, 16gb Patriot 2133, 2 980ti strix video cards in SLI mode. XFX PRO850W PSU. I think maybe it has something to do with onboard memory inside the steering wheel.

Iv had this problem all morning with the system hanging on a2 error code and 66 or 99 and what I did to sort it was to remove one drive at a time since I have 4 drives, 1 ssd and 3 hybrid drive's, After removing one at a time and finding nothing wrong with them I turned to the fan controller which is powered by a sata cable after removing that and resetting my CMOS it seems to be the same after alot of faffing about it turned out to be a faulty sata cable to my ssd that was the problem lucky I had a spare and is back up and running so hope this help's one person out there

Fixed it.

I simply unplugged my SATA cord, turned my pc off and on again, and replugged my cord back into the same port and she started working like a charm again.
