MSI motherboard too slow....

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out why my new MSI based computer is so slow.
I have two computers: an older Compaq Presario 3000 laptop and
a new MS-6714 based computer that I just put together. The specs
on the laptop are:

P4 2.8GHz, 512M ram, 60G Fijutsu IDE internal HD.

the specs on the MSI are:

P4 3.06GHz, 533 FSB, 512M DDR 333 ram, 40G Seagate ATA100.

I run a program called Poser 5 for rendering 3D pictures. The program
does not take advantage of any 3D accelleration. The rendering
process from what I understand is purely dependend on CPU speed.
I have a small picture that I have been using as a test picture. On the
laptop it takes 4 seconds to do the total render process. On the MSI
computer it takes 20 seconds, 5 times longer. This is strange because
it should take less time. I have looked at all the specs in the cmos and
they are all set to the fastest as far as I can tell. The CPU is a brand
new retail Intel. I even turned off the swap file to see if that was the
cause and it made no difference. The ram passes all the diags I through
at it. So my questions are:

1. why would a 3.06GHz run 5X slower than a 2.8GHz?
2. is it possible that the motherboard or cpu or ram is bad?
3. are there any benchmarks I can run to isolate the problem?

I have talked to the tech support people who make Poser and they
have no clue.

Any suggestions?

thanks,
charles.......

for starters the ram mhz should match the fsb of the processor otherwise
it'll be 'bottle-necking'

Doesn't DDR 333 ram match the FSB of 333?

err... yes. but the op states his processor is 533fsb. i can only assume
that with you querying this that the 533 was a typo ??? having always being
an amd man i wouldnt know

his fsb is 133 (quad 533)
so his ram would be 133/266 stuff.. pc 2100 is it? .. but he's using 2700
stuff so the ram is out of sync but faster than the processor..

That's def not his problem tho.. I would be tempted to run a util to see how
fast the p4 is running, and also to check the temps as the p4 might be
getting to hot and dethrottling itself..

I am a amd guy too so might be wrong .. but those would be my first places
(cpu-z is the util I mean to check the cpu speeds)
