Hi ppl

I have just built a new PC with the following specs

Motheboard: MSI P45 Platinum
Processor: Intel Quad Core Q6600
Graphics: Asus ATi Radeon HD 3450 256MB PCI-E
Ram: OCZ 2GB DDR2

and
x1 DVD R/W

------------------------

I have put all the component together - but coming to power it up it does not power up at all....

although LED 3 (Which I've read is Power) lights up red? should this be green?
I dont know

The power supply I am using is ...

PC Power & Cooling SILENCER 500 EPS12V

which has been tested with a asus p45 deluxe mb and it all workS!
.............................

all suggestions welcome ....

Thank you so much

I'm far from an expert, but if you have 2 memory sticks, you could try using only one stick. If your using dual-channel memory, you'll want both sticks in either the green or orange slots. Try only one stick for now.

I have to ask this so, you do have the power supply cpu plugged into the MB right? Is your case power button hooked up correctly on the MB? Depending on your graphics card power requirements, you may also have to connect 12V from the power supply to the card. On my MSI MB, it's labeled JPWR1. It looks to be right above your PCIEX16 slot.

Hi

Yes the powersupply is plugged into the motherboard correctly...
I will try a single stick of RAM each time - although the memory sticks are paired - (both in same colour slots).....

My graphics is not one of those supa dupa power hungary ones although I have plugged in power to JPWR1##

_any other ideas? _ LED 3 shows red and powering up.....

Is your grfx card in the top slot? I don't think it matters on your board though.

You could try only connecting what is necessary like the grfx card and one stick of RAM. Disconnect the HDD/s and cd/dvd burner/s and all other devices (internal and external) if you have them and see if you can get to the BIOS.

Have you tried pressing the little red PWRBTN in the bottom right corner of the MB (Not the Reset button)? I'm assuming it is a power button from the way it reads in the manual. What are the "system problem" LEDs telling you?

There is a little green sticker to the right and in between the PCIEX slots. It's to the left of the heatpipes going to the southbridge. If you can read it, what does it say? Probably 7512 and other numbers. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it might indicate which BIOS version is installed. Your CPU has been compatible since V1.0 though. I'm just curious about it.

Hopefully someone more experienced will stop by here soon. If not, here's a link to the MSI forums. http://forum.msi.com.tw/

Yep Graphics card is plugged into the top slot!

I hAVe tried all the above suggestion but stil no luck...

The little green sticker reads - 7512 ims500 -

I have also when pressing the power button the a blue light flashes....
on LED 5 for example if the gfx card is plugged in to 2nd pci slot - same if it was plugged into 1st slot

any more suggestions- ot is it a knackerd mb

Your little green sticker blew my theory of the BIOS version LOL. Thanks for looking though.

The only other things I can think of is try another type of compatible RAM if you can borrow a stick from someone. I guess you could also try resetting the CMOS, but make sure everything is powered off and unplugged. Who knows, the battery could be dead. If resetting the BIOS works, you'll probably want to load the optimized default settings. I would also make sure your memory voltage is correct.

I wish I could help more, but my current computer is my first build so I'm very limited in experience. I was hoping someone would help, but you could always try the MSI forum. I've had limited success getting help there.

Hey P45 User,
Did you figure out why your mother board wouldn't start. I'm having the same problem and I can't get it to go. Any ideas? 😱

Are any other LEDs on? Group 7,8,10,11, 12, 13, 14, 15 should provide you with detailed problem information. Check page 43 (2-29) of your manual.

Also, if the power LED lights, what indicators are you using that tell you that it's not powering up?

It´s a little late but since I had the same problem I thought I should write it down. Look for the reset CMOS button in the I/O shield, is it out all the way? In my case it was not (stayed pressed) so the system wouldn´t start. Hope that helps.
