I recently purchased the MSI Twin Frozr II OC HD 6950 and while I'm very happy with the card, I want to get more out of it. I can easily get the GPU to 880MHz (vs. reference of 800) and the VRAM to 1325MHz (vs. reference of 1250). I'm a little gun-shy on upping the voltage, but still want to push the card.

I haven't been 100% stable going much over the 880 mark on the GPU, anyone out there have luck with pushing this, or a similar card up higher?

What kind of voltage are you using on the GPU to push for more?

Hi cdub,

Just like OCing a CPU, your GPU needs more voltage to be stable at higher clock speeds. Also like OCing a CPU, if your temps are under control, increasing the voltage by moderate amounts is not very risky.

I have a Sapphire 6950 and I was able to get 975 Mhz stable at a very minimal voltage increase (1.150v over 1.100v, or 4.5%) but results vary by card. Watch your temps while you overclock and be conservative. only increase voltage by small increments and you should be safe.

Are you using MSI Afterburner?
