Question MSI z390-a pro 2nd PCI-E 16x runs only with 2x

I put a PCI-E 4x NVMe adapter into my 2nd 16x slot. The manual states that this shoul have 4 PCH lanes. The problem is that it only runs with 2x and thus the ssd speed is below 2000MB/s (should be 3500).
I already tried to pull out all SATA drives (don't know if lanes interfer there) - with no avail.

So is there a way to enable 4x on my 2nd 16x slot?

was looking at your mainboard manuals and couldnt find a thing why wouldnt it run in x4 mode
so i looked through similar boards from msi and some of them mention this:
PCI_E4 slot will become PCIe x2 mode, when installing device in any PCIe x1 slot.
can u confirm if thats your case?

what the ssd? what the adapter?

full system spec?

there is nothing installed in any of the x1 slots.
an 1060 is installed in 1st x16 slot

check bios settings? the slot might be running at 2.0 x4

i already checked them. the only setting is about the generation mod - is set to auto.

i think that can't change the speed of the port is running?!

i'll try the bios update. installing samsung magician didn't helped.

i updated bios and tried magician all with no avail- i also opened a ticked at msi support - will report back here if it yields something.
