So I did not see this before, but apparently people have bricked their boards trying to update their BIOS on these MSI boards. My question is how do update this board safely? How do I check what version is currently on the bios? Apparently after a specific update the Bios clearing doesnt work. Would really not want to destroy my board and it makes me scared to try to do the update.

Solution

If you would like to avoid this issue please follow these steps

Download the update via MSI website here is the link that is specifically for your motherboard.
http://www.msi.com/support/mb/Z97-G55-SLI.html#down-bio...
(This link is specifically for your motherboard and nobody elses.)
After you download it, put the file on a usb stick, go to the bios and choose usb flash.
Follow the onscreen steps and you are done.
That is how I update my bios. My mb is a MSI Z97 GAMING 3

If you...

Dont be so much on a high horse...

MSI forum showing its buggy

One of their moderators also replied to a post of mine saying not to use the Live Update. Please do not post on something that you do not actually know about. I could have bricked my board if I had listened to you.

Moderators advice.

EDIT
finally the thing im looking for actual reply from an MSI representative saying it's buggy??

high horse?? really im asking him to provide a official link, he only provide newegg, amazon and no official statement. i think you need to read all the post 1st before commenting.

btw
the link you provided says nothing about live update. only people bricking there board after flashing. only already faulty mobo that was rick after it's BIOS was Updated.

Hes not a MSI representative hes just saying that if he would of followed your stages he could of bricked his motherboard. I did give you the offical MSI website and it didn't mention anything about MSI live update

i thought he provided a link on "an official statement or a forum that actual acknowledge that it was faulty" but guess the link he provided says nothing. only people bricking there ALREADY faulty mobo.

Alright im looking at msi live update right now and I think what people are doing is after they download the mb update they push the button total installer. And that updates the bios but within windows which is not good. So this is probably how people are bricking their motherboards

i agree. they (MSI) should provided a tutorial on using MSI live update.

So overall its fine to download the bios update through MSI live update but instead of doing total installer, you put the file on a usb, go in the bios and push usb flash.

yes. or alternatively they just click the right side after the "Size", there is a download button there.
