Multiple issues with new build

Hi all, I recently built a new system and am having a few issues up front. Need some help. I recently put together a system with the following pertinent main components:

- ASRock Fatal1ty X99 Professional Gaming i7 LGA 2011-v3 Motherboard (bios v1.4)
- Intel Core i7-6850K Broadwell-E 6-Core 3.6 GHz LGA 2011-V3 140W Processor
- Corsair [/b]Hydro Series H100i V2 Extreme Performance Water / Liquid CPU Cooler
- G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 128GB (8 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400
- MSI GeForce GTX 980TI GAMING 6G GOLDEN EDITION

On first boot straight to bios:
1. The CPU votage was reading 1.72V which is insanely high
2. The motherboard was only reading (6) out of the eight sticks of RAM
3. The CPU fans are spinning at a constant 1500RPM and can't be adjusted in the bios

After re-seating all the RAM modules, checking all connections and clearing the CMOS, the CPU voltage has dropped down to a relatively constant 1.29V and all (8) RAM modules are being seen giving me the full 128GB of RAM. Now the following issue is happening:

1. Once in the bios, the screen freezes after 30 seconds and the computer has to be restarted manually. I haven't made any changes to settings other than the above.
2. I still can't adjust the CPU fan speed, or any of the fans connected to the motherboard.

Any help would be most appreciated. I can build a system, but I must admit I'm pretty stupid when it comes to troubleshooting. Thanks in advance.

first thing i always check on a build

is straight into the bios and check the cpu temperature for a couple of minutes

Thanks for the advise. Unfortunately, because the bios screen freezes, I can't get a reading for longer than 30 seconds or so. However for that first 30 seconds, the CPU temp doesn't rise above 30 degrees C.

Also, I haven't installed an OS or drivers yet. This is a fresh build with all the above happening in the bios only. I haven't attempted any other installs.

guess if its showing 30c but not going up before it freezes chances are its not an overheating issue

but would be good to know that for certain

i would try with less ram installed

i know it supports up to 128gb but just out of interest to see if it still freezes

To be honest, I did try that last night with varying degrees of success:

- one stick would not post. Black screen only.
- Two sticks would freeze after pressing the Delete button to go into the bios
- four sticks would not post. Black screen only. Or freeze before going into the bios
- Eight sticks is the only option that would allow me to go into the bios and navigate around. However after resetting the CMOS, now I get the freeze after 30

Well your mobo is messed up or your ram is, or possibly get ur bios updated. Very weird this is happening

Or maybe the voltages for you ram is not correct as well

Man, I hope it's not the board. What a pain. The bios is the latest version (v1.4) based on ASrock's website. Not sure about the RAM voltage settings as I haven't made any adjustments. Do you know what the correct voltage should be?

Asrock's problems man... I've heard at least 5 cases of the same problem... Ram slots is your problem...Somehow Asrock don't want to corporate with ram.
Get the Mobo back to the store if you can, Get an MSI or Gigabyte.

Did a quick search about the RAM voltages,

Designed with a low voltage of 1.2V~1.35V at DDR4 standards.

If your Mobo has XMP, enable it.. it might fix your problems

Thanks all. Coming from an MSI board, this is a bummer.

Clicking on the XMP profile stopped the bios freeze, and all the ram is showing up, running at 2400.

However, now the CPU voltage is back up to 1.76v. Not sure what to do about that. I already tried an adjustment in the bios and it wouldn't even post.

what monitor are you using ? my 720p tv freezes my bios because it cannot display correctly but works fine on a 1080p tv .

edit. just seen that you have fixed the freezing issue .

Well, do you have any auto overclock future enabled on your Mobo? Maybe that's what happens.

with out the bios freezing whats the cpu temp after a couple of minutes?

if its really using 1,76v cpu the temps would be through the roof

The CPU temp never went above 31c.

ASRock finally returned my email today. This is what they said:

Thank you for contacting ASRock support.
The voltage 1.7v is CPU input voltage. This technology is started from Haswell CPU called (FIVR).
The actual voltage should be checked on Vcore.

I'm going to recheck on Vcore and see if the bios read is accurate. I'm thinking not.

31c is fine obviously

and yes i assumed you were looking at the vcore

Hi all. So i checked the Vcore and it's reading 1.103v. CPU input voltage is reading 1.776v. I've let the system run for about 20min and the temp has reached a pretty stable 33c. From what i can tell, this isn't too bad?
