I'm relatively new to video editing and would appreciate suggestions
for a budget editor to run on a fairly fast PC. I don't mind putting
some time into learning. My primary use is to edit a wedding shot with
three separate DV cameras. I thought to align clips from each camera
appropriately then do a quick cross fade from one track to another.
(Just to complicate my life the cameras were not running continuously
so I know I'll need to split them into clips.) I'm familiar with audio
editing and can easily handle that component in Sonar if needed.

I've looked at Ulead which came with my DVD burner. It has an overlay
track but I don't see any way of getting three video tracks. I know
premier can handle my needs but for one project it's hard to justify
the price if someting less expensive can handle the job.

Thanks for your insight.

Some good choice:
Look for Movie edit pro 2004 at
www.magix.com

or Eve
http://www.mainconcept.com/evev2.shtml

and Screenblast
http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/Products/ShowProduct.asp?PID=856

All are about the same price and capabilities.

Thanks for the ideas. EVE looks interesting and I may download to have
a close look. I'm specifically hoping to import three videos shot at
the same time on separate layers. I have one video that was shot
pretty much continuous and would like to time align the others as
clips. It would seem easiest to just crossfade from the main layer to
another layer and back to get different views.

Do you know if any of the budget editors have that capability?

I'm also thinking about virtual dub to preprocess the videos (do any
color/brightness/contrast matching to each other before importing
them).
