Question My 13900K hits extreme temperatures

During 3dMark benchmarks, such as Time Spy and Fire Strike Ultra, my 13900K will reach extreme temperatures, like 90 and 97 °C.

Funny thing is, a few months back, at those same tests, my CPU would hit 80+ degrees (but would NEVER go above 90), and I’m wondering it there’s something wrong.

Its idle temps, are anywhere between 29 and 40°C and, in-game, are usually 60-70 °C.

I have updated my BIOS with the latest microcode patch.

That's not extreme! It's still under the 100 °C throttle point for modern Intel CPUs. Modern CPUs boost until they hit the limit, then "wind back" a little and continue running at maximum permitted temperature, until the load reduces.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I hope you are right. I don’t really know what’s considered normal for 13900K and i wouldn’t want to accidentally fry my CPU.

The latest motherboard bios updates have, or will have protections.
Best to update to currency.
If you occasionally do not see a core at 100c. you are probably losing a bit of compute power.

90 and 97 °C.

For this generation it is normal. They are designed to use as much thermal headroom as they have.
