Question My AMD driver isn’t working anymore, can anyone help me troubleshoot?

Okay, I was trying to play Dead by Daylight from Steam for the first time, and it was asking me to upgrade or replace my graphics driver, and after using the link to the AMD website and installing the updated driver, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas stopped functioning. I later went back to the AMD website and saw the conflict specifically for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, but even after uninstalling the new driver and using the AMD cleanup tool, my games still won’t work. For whatever reason, my system recovery doesn’t go back far enough to fix this issue. I had my friend help me try to go back to the AMD website and we couldn’t find the drivers that came with my laptop to start with. I need assistance in troubleshooting and getting my games functioning again. Any assistance is very greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: I tried installing the two games onto the C drive instead of my SSD, and somehow, they're working fine???
Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone who responded, I really, REALLY appreciate all the effort you put in in trying to help me!!!

Okay I am so happy you mentioned your on a laptop. That does give a clue but please post make and model of laptop and what's under the hood. Parts wise.

You are though on the right path. Some laptops NEED the manufactures GPU driver to function correctly.

Okay, here’s some info about the laptop itself:

HP Pavilion Amd a10-8700p radeon R6, 10 compute cores 4C +6G 1.80Ghz
windows 10 64bit, 8gb ram… I’m really not sure what I’m doing or what all you’d need to help, sorry!

Cool that gives us parts. Please look for the model name and number of your HP.

Sometimes there clearly labeled by the keyboard or on the frame of the monitor.

And sometime on the bottom on a sticker.

If you still can't find yes sometimes under the battery.

EDIT: okay I see you did give model.

Is this the correct model?

It looks right, it’s got a pretty wide screen, but I’m not sure the dimensions. I also need to add that this previously belonged to my grandmother, and she peeled off the labels and sticker, and probably trashed them years ago. So, that’s part of the problem my friend and I ran into. Also, he wanted me to let you know about the error code that steam gives when I try to launch the games, I think it was 5:0000065434, and even after redirecting the steam executable, and trying other stuff, we still couldn’t get it to resolve.

It is entirely possible that this could be a Steam problem, and not a driver problem, however, due to the fact that all my other games besides fallout 3 and new Vegas launch, and the fact that there is a known issue between the AMD drivers and those two games, that’s what I’m betting on.

Some information about your GPU from HP forums.

https://community.amd.com/t5/pc-dri...cards-hp-pavilion-15-amd-a10-8700/td-p/474552

The link below is where you should be able to go get that drive and your given a nice message from HP that says

There is no software or drivers available for your product. SOOOOO

Not all is lost Manufactures always put a folder on the "C" drive with not only your GPU driver but every driver the laptop uses.

The problem is it's not just labeled HP Drivers and I'm trying to remember how it is labeled.

Before we go down the rabbit hole are you running the factory installed OS that the HP supplied out of the box.

Okay to answer the last question, no it isn’t the factory install. I had to get a new hard drive and I had to get windows reinstalled from a tech shop guy because she (my grandmother) didn’t keep any of the disks.

Okay forget that swsetup folder. I'm looking out here and it sounds like a lot of roadblock going back a few years.

So you don't think that the swsetup folder would help any?
And I'm not fully understanding the post you linked. Is there anything that I can do to try to fix this issue or is it like unsolvable?

Yes the swsetup WOULD have been the golden goose egg. Meaning if you still had it.

Yes solvable but the original HP driver seems to be MIA from usually places.

Was the laptop Windows 8.1 from HP when new.

I did find a Windows 8.1 driver that could be used on windows 10 as a test. The laptop did come out in 2015.
