My ATI x1900 GT is idle'n at 61c

So When i first bought my ATI x1900gt, I was playing cod4, battlefield 2142 ect. It was ok and all. Now I can't even play counterstrike. It would open for a bit then I get all these lines and then my screen goes black but the cpu is still on. Sometimes I can still here the game. Could it be that my graphic card is bad or maybe the fan is bad. I was thinking about replacing it but I would like to see if I can fix the card before I trash it. It works good and all for everyday use. Watching a movie in 720p is ok too. It only goes down when I try to play games. Maybe the 3d is no good. Can anyone help me out. Thanks

Load riva tuner and set the fan to 60% after cleaning the rear of the card with a old tooth brush or a paint brush to remove the fluff. That is what I do with my x1900xt.

Ops sorry only some of the GT cards have a dual slot cooler. Take it out and blow with caned air (or the old lung) at the rear of the card to push the fluff toward to fan so it can picked out.

make sure you have all the things to get that guy running if your psu isnt powerful enough you can end up with a hotter GPU and bad performance..as for the lines that your seeing did you install the latest drivers at all

My power supply is 420watt and the card min says 450, I'm not sure if that would hurt it or not. I've updated the driver ATI catalyst and it's 09.3 version
I've went into the ATI tool and manually adjusted the fan control. I now have it constantly running at 50% if it's over 55c and increased to 75% if it's up in the 60c etc to 100% if it reaches 70c. I'm not sure by doing that, will it damage the card. I didn't overclock it or anything. I tried Lord of the ring: conquest before I had done all of this and there was a lot of lines and it kicked me out and now it seems to work fine, still a little bit of lines here and there. Maybe it could be the fan. What do you think. I've taken the card out and used the air can on it several times already.

Basically this means that either card is getting old and on its way out, or your PSU is on it's way out.

Since turning the fan speeds up helped you, but not completely, I would turn it up even more. Get it to go up to 75% above 55c and 100% over 60c. It'll be loud, but it's either that or under clock it to keep it going. The card should last at least another few months by doing this.

If the PSU is dying, under clocking everything is about your only hope of not having it die on you in the next few weeks.

How do you know if your power supply is going to die soon. Is there any programs that can figure that out or will I just have to wait and let time tell?

Get pcwizard and once loaded look at the monitoring portion of the program first section and the look at the voltage on the 12v source. If it is 11.45~12v+ it should be ok unless it fluctuates while under load.

My 12v voltage is at 12.29v at 100% load. It goes up and down just a tiny bit. 12.22v - 12.35v. Should that be ok

Those temperatures should be fine for the card. I thought that generation (as well as the current) could take the heat pretty nicely. Try HWMonitor (that will give you voltages and temps for the whole system, and if you leave it running in the background during a game it will record max).

Also, try a program like memtest or prime95 to stress the rest of the system to make sure it is stable.
