Thank you for your supportive yet sarcastic remark! I bought the Logitech z-680 speakers, and the whole rig with the 22" Viewsonic LCD was $5700 with tax...and a complimentary b _ _ w job!

Nice system. I don't think I would've gone through Gateway though. Other places could build that for you for less.

This is my third Gateway. I am replacing my existing (barely) 500MHZ, which works very slowly. The system itself without the Viewsonic Monitor and Logitech speaker set cost $3600 plus tax. The 22" Viewsonic LCD (VP201mb ViewPanel) cost $1379 plus tax. I know I could have paid a LITTLE less if I shopped it to some less wellknown brand, but at least I know Gateway will be there at the beginning, middle and end of my 3-year parts and labor warranty. Peace of mind has a value. All in all, I'm ecstatic with the purchase. The monitor and speakers came in today's UPS. Gateway advises the computer was built and shipped today (2 days to build my baby). All I am waiting for then is the LOGITECH MX DUO cordless mouse and keyboard. That mouse looks killer!

Gateway gets a bad reputation mainly based on their Essentials PC series, which are essentially an Emachines system...

But they do offer high end models as well, and those use standard ATX parts (except the power supply, which is usually narrower). And high quality parts at that!

Most of the Gateway PCs I've got used have had geniune Intel motherboards, Intel CPUs, name brand memory, WD hard drives, name brand CD devices, USR modems, and 3-com network cards!

Watts mean squat if you don't have quality!

Not too shabby - I got the Dell 4600 to $2830 but the disk was 200GB, no Zip drive and need to add a CR-RW. Not sure if the extra is $800 or not...

i just bout fell off my chair when i read the price.

i like gateways though, would rather build my own, but gateways are still top notch. they have beyond awesome tech support. get to your prob right away and if its the comp thats wrong they send ya a new part or piece. in my case it was a new monitor. they sent me the same size but newest model.

and probably bout $1500 cheaper if we built it.

I just realized that you bought a Viewsonic 22" LCD. Did it cost you your left testicle? It must be fantastic. Which model is it? I found this one and nearly fell out of my chair.

First of all:
-What in the world are you gonna do with 2GB of memory?
-Since when do Radeon 9800 PROs cost 240$, I am astonished.
-I give you 6 months and that thing will cost 2850$

Were you gonna use this comp for real intensive purposes or did you go all-out without even considering some of the choices you took, such as 2GB of memory?
The monitor and the video card impress me the most, but the whole Gateway thing, nah...prefer clone over any OEM any day.
