I've been using the optiplex 755 for a while now (1-2 years) and when I try playing games that used to handle very well with the machine, they run very slow and the cpu usage is very high.

Here is a screenshot.(Playing alien swarm while taking screenshot.)

Solution
Clearly not a temperature problem, at least not a CPU temperature problem.
It could be GPU temperature.
It could be an HDD problem, causing the CPU usage to rise to the roof (happened to me, formatting fixed it).
I'm playing on the blind side so i don't have much to go with to be honest.
50 degrees C isn't enough to cause damage. If things get to 80 there may be an issue. Have you changed any settings or downloaded any updates recently?

No I haven't today I will reset my hard drive and reinstall windows 7 to see if the problem fixes but no I haven't gotten any updates recently, well im not sure if I have or not it auto updates so I don't know what it updates.

Average temperature doesn't tell much, we need max temperature reached while playing .
Use this
http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
To tell maximum temperature, just play and when it lags for a while, close the game and screenshot the core temp window, should tell you the max temperature reached.

Alright thanks for you help man will be reformatting today

I didn't mean...oh dear -_-
I suggested is as an option but if you're THAT desperate, go for it (formatting is never a bad idea really...).
I'd either as k for a second opinion or a professional's opinion on the matter

Refomatting did the trick, I didn't mind that much about the stuff on my hard drive, but thanks for being concerned.
