My cpu is overheating.

Hello, I'm quite new to the tech world but I recently got myself a decent PC, GTX1070 ASUS DUAL OC and an i5-6600k with the factal design r5 chassi.

My problem is that my cpu-temps are super high, up to 95 Celsius while playing miscreated for about 10 minutes, and up to the same temp while playing Golf With Your Friends for half an hour.
I only have the two fans that came with the chassi.

I sent the PC to the guys I bought it from, very reputable company, and they were supposed to fix the problem with too much thermal paste and they fixed it, what could the problem be now? Scared for my life playing because I dont want my PC to go up in flames. Thanks!

The most common causes of over heating are 1) The CPU/heatsink setup, (excessive thermal compound is bad),and 2) too high an overclock.

High ambient temps will cause higher temps but not over heating.

[strike]Che[/strike] Check the temps using "RealTemp", and "HWInfo".

Have you overclocked the CPU? or are you using stock settings in the BIOS? If you haven't even started overclocking yet, then 95 degrees Celsius means something is incredibly wrong.

What is your current CPU cooler? If you are using the stock Intel cooler, throw it in the garbage and get a decent air cooler or AIO.

The Define R5 was designed to be quiet, which means it is not kind on air flow. Fill every available spot with a decent case fan, preferably PWM fans which can be programmed to ramp up significantly as the CPU temperatures mount.

I haven't set up any overclocking thingies in the bios, I have the CM tx3i cooler which I forgot to mention.

Have you tried customizing the fan curve for the CPU cooler? I like to run the OCCT CPU stress test while experimenting with the fan curve. Try running the CPU fan at 100% to see whether it makes a difference.

Running the fan att 100% seems not to do much, I really don't know what I'm doing while messing with the fan curve so I just used the standard bios setting and MSI Afterburner. Probably gonna remove the cooler and mount it back on tomorrow and see if that helps.

Not all fans are equal. The general rule is the thicker the fan, the more air it can move. ie, a fan 3/4 inch can't move as much air as a fan 1 1/4 thick. Some of these fans may only move 30CFM, cubic Feet per Second. While the thicker ones may move 80-90 CFM. Off hand I would reseat or have someone reseat the cpu heatsink first. Make sure heat management is turned on in the bios, the fans are controlled automatically. Using something that makes some smoke, an essence stick, a cig or whatever, check and see if there is any airflow thru case by holding near the air inlet, please don't catch anything on fire...I had a coolermaster HTPC case running an amd, and nothing I did could keep it cool. Just a bad design. Imo The smaller the case, the harder it is to keep cool lol.

Eta my rule is IF you can pull the side cover off and it DOE'SNT overheat, then it's a case air flow problem. IF the cpu overheats with side cover off, it's a heatsink problem YMMV

I've already tried without the sidepanel on and still the same issue, gonna see if I can get another cooler sent to me if re-applying it doesnt help, thanks for the help guys!

Pleas let us know what you find. All it takes is a grain of sand to hold it off the cpu the size of a quarter. ie no contact. I was taught to us a razor blade or credit card or something to spread the heat grease, to ensure all the cpu heatsink (metal part) is VERY lightly covered.

So I was at a friends and switched the cooler (CM tx3i) and it reached max 65 Celsius, but when I got home it still went up to 90 Celsius. Is it that my room is hotter than his or something because I'm honestly super stressed about this. Played miscreated for about 10 minutes at my friends and it stayed under 65 but when I played it not even a minute at my home it instantly went up to 90.

Just to clarify, you took the whole system to your friend's house? and used it in the same fashion that you do at home?

Describe the room you play in at home (upstairs? downstairs?) and the room you played in at your friend's house.

When you play at home, does the machine sit on carpet? Is it right against a wall? What is the ambient temperature in the room at home?

What is the temperature of your CPU at idle?

Yes, same fashion, no carpet, I have it sitting on my desk with the backside of the PC to the wall, it's about 15 centimeters from the wall atm, my room is downstairs, room temp is between 25 and 27 Celsius all the time, we were in his living room but I don't know what temp his room was at.
Idle temps ranges between 33-40 Celsius. I'm actually puzzled about the temp difference,.

I know this is gonna make me look like an idiot but I seemed to have found the problem, I think I got airbubbles in my thermalpaste and I also think my coolers grip on the mobo is loose, I ran prime95 for about 10 minutes and it maxed out at 70 Celsius. I'm considering getting a new cooler that actually sticks to the mobo becasue it's such a silly issue imho, I'm not sure tho, any opinions?

I have never heard of air bubbles in thermal paste, but you've got me stumped otherwise. It also doesn't sound good if the CPU cooler is not firmly pressed against the CPU. It certainly doesn't cost too much to try a different cooler. Let us know how it turns out!

I suspect it was the drop technique. A drop in the center of the processor. Then the heat sink got installed slightly crooked, which smashed all the grease to one side and left the other side bare. That's why I always recommend spreading it out thinly, before dropping the heaksink on.

Yeah, the cooelr was actually super hard to get mounted, the plastic pins didn't help at all so if I start to experience higher temps I'm just gonna buy a new cooler, I started a prime95 cpu test and it maxed out at 70 celsius, and while gaming I haven't hit 60 yet, so I'm quite happy.

Yeah I had my friend do it and he used a businesscard to kinda wipe the paste all over the heatsink and cpu, while my other friend pressed the paste out, I tested out both and pressing it out seems to work better.
