I am running a computer with

16 gbs of ram
an i5 7500 processor
geForce 1080

is my GPU too strong for that processor?

My fortnite game is coming out to play-doh in the game. Nothing is rendering like it did a week ago. It was running fine last week, It takes about 3 to 4 minutes for the buildings to render in. The screen also freezes for seconds at a time and lags (not from connection. Ping is low) when I get around enemies.

I also just played far cry 5 for the first time in a while today, and the game ran extremely poorly. The bar in the settings said I had plenty of VRAM (2.23 gbs used out of 7 gbs (at maxed settings))

the funny thing is that is that I can play Witcher 3 Wild Hunt at max settings with absolutely no issue. Runs perfect at a great frame rate. I do not know what it could be.

I have checked my drivers and i dont think theyre the issue unless I missed something. Please help me with this. I really miss my computer running at top notch.

Solution
There is a Windows tool for defragmentation, which you can find by using Windows 10's built-in search function. If you have Windows 7, it should be under the maintenance section of the control panel. Windows defragmentation isn't the best so I'd recommend using Auslogics Disk Defrag or Piriform Defraggler. The former is faster in most situations but it may try to trick you into buying things you don't need.

No man, I only have an HDD. What does the hard drive have to do with my PC's performance?

Where could I check those?

You can use a program like this

It can have a lot to do with performance actually... if your HDD is capping out with read/write speeds in specific games then that's why the game is stuttering and locking up. SSD's are recommended for most modern games now, and gaming in general really.

Could it also do with my game not rendering? Especially fortnite. As i said before, it takes minutes for the buildings and what not to render in.

If the HDD is near full capacity, files can get fragmented very easily. Using an HDD is fine if you don't mind longer loading times but it's very sensitive to maintenance. Make sure to defrag the drive regularly. Also avoid installing games on the same HDD as the operating system because Windows likes to do a lot of stuff with its installation drive.

Well I still have 978 GBs of free space. How do I defrag a harddrive?

Solution
I'd recommend defragmentation with a specialized program if your issue was less severe, but I doubt it'll help here. It definitely doesn't sound like a mismatch between the hardware, more like the RAM breaking down or something.

Let's hope not, it's always wise to eliminate less severe problems first.
