I used an usb wifi adapter for my desptop pc and got around 5.46 mbit/s and when it decided to die I got an Ethernet cable I only got around 1.50 to 2.80 mbit/s I checked multiple times with ooklas speedtest so any tips?

Do try switching ports. Also, once connected via Ethernet, please post what speed your network is connected at. Reference:
try a different cable and a different port on your router, beyond that would need more info, does windows report the Ethernet card is working and at what spoeed?

I don't have another cable that is long enough, but I will try switching ports
