Hey everyone I am doing my first PC build and I have a budget of $600 (excluding peripherals) and I just wanted to know if this is a decent build.

Would I need a bigger power supply or will this be sufficient?
I may overclock which is why I purchased the after market cooler, but I am curious as to whether or not the power supply could handle this?

Thanks!

This would be much better.

That psu has to go for sure. The psu is one thing you cannot cheap out on. I also don't recommend the 2 year old FXs anymore. The i3 is faster most of the time and it's way more future proof since you could upgrade to a 5th gen Intel.

Thanks for your input, I have heard that Corsair makes reliable power supply units which is why I chose that one and it also comfortably powers all the components according to the estimated usage so why would this PSU not be a good choice? I'm new to this so I appreciate all the help!

Some Corsair psus are very good. Like the AX, GS, HX, RM, and TX series. But some of their units like the CX series are mediocre at best. 430w is pushing it anyway especially if you were planning on overclocking that FX which you would be wanting to since it's has such terrible single core performance.

Thanks for you help CTurbo I will look for a better PSU at 500W, also is there a reason you recommended the Gskill Ripjaws RAM over the Corsair Vengeance, I have heard good things about both is this just your personal preference?

Actually it's better by a large margin. That asrock for some reason only has 4+1 phase count. It's tricked me before from the "990FX"aswell 😛

The gigabyte I suggested has 8+2 and it's more suited to a 8 core CPU like the 8350.

The 990FX Extreme 4 would have been a good choice though.

The GSkill and Corsair RAM are equal, but the GSkill is $11 cheaper making it a much better value.

The 620w Antec psu High Current Gamer 80+ Bronze psu for $59 is the cheapest top notch psu on the market right now. If that's too expensive, you should just go with one of the EVGAs mentioned on here.

Wow I knew the Extreme4 had 8+2. I can't believe the Extreme3 is only 4+1. Guess I learned something today. :)

This is moot point though because I still don't recommend any FX. They are not terrible my any means, they just no longer offer any real advantage over new 4th gen Intels.

Yup, totally agree, the FX are becoming very dated. An intel build would be more suited to this budget.

Sometimes if the builder insists on overclocking around the $500-600 range, amd has a place, since there is no i3 to overclock and the 8320 is around the i3 pricing; but that's slowly going away to.

A_Combi_Stick, if you can fit in that Antec it'd be recommend as it's a better quality than the EVGA. The Antec could last you through another rebuild while the EVGA may or may not.

Yup I just added that to the list instead as it was only like $10-$15 more after the rebate, I appreciate all the help you guys! I think I will stick to the AMD though and see how it goes for me, I have changed a handful of parts for better performance and about the same price, you guys are awesome!

Well, the FX will work, but keep it mind, it offers NO advantage, and no upgrade path. Your switch over to Intel is inevitable honestly.
