Hi ,

I am a photographer and have been using Mac for quite some time. Looking at shifting to PC given that there is so much of a price difference between both which does not seem worth it.

Here is the system am planning for.

Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2 1 LGA 2011 Processor with heat sink
ASUS SABERTOOTH X79 - LGA2011 - X79 - 8x DIMM - PCIe 3.0 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 1600 FSB -4 GB * 4
Corsair Hydro Series H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Corsair Professional Series Gold 850-Watt 80 Plus Gold Certified High-Performance Power Supply
180GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Seagate - Barracuda 1 TB 3.5" Internal HD Sata III
Dell UltraSharpTM U2711 27” Monitor with PremierColor

How does this config look. Am looking at lots of photoshop, video editing and obviously the occasional gaming :D

Please do let me know if I should make any changes or If I could reduce the budget by replacing anything.

Thanks

If you're going to look to push all those pixels through that monitor while gaming, I'd recommend getting an HD7870 to pack the heat necessary for smooth game play.

Also maybe check out slickdeals.net for deals? There have been some good motherboards for decent prices and HDD's/SSD's as well.

Thanks Brett :)

@anticommon: Thanks. are you suggesting that I get a different graphics card. would there be a problem with the one am currently planning to use?

@popatim: hmm.. I think I will go with 16 for now. will upgrade to 32GB as and when I get the extra cash :)

The 7870 should draw considerably less power for your build, and offer very similar performance. Of course, if you are up for spending $500 on a GPU I'd say try to get your hands on one of those shiny GTX680's. Less power usage than the 580 and hella more performance!

Also, I have an antec 902v3 case and the airflow is phenomenal. You can even order a 3rd front case fan if you want to spend another $30. (I'm thinking about getting it just to deck out the case a little bit more)

As for looks, I really like the Phantom cases by NZXT. Mhmmm... yummy.

He wants a card with CUDA so amd is out of the question.

OK definately go for at least 16gb of ram, (hope your using Windows 7 64bit?)
Ditch the GTX580 and buy the new GTX680
And although the HAFX is good i cant help but feel you would be much better served with one of these
