Hello,
it is NOT the numlock key either, no matter what key i strike it shows the next consecutive number and just goes through 0-9 over and over... like its counting my keystrokes. it started doing it only on a few programs and now it does it on ALL programs... however it does allow me to type in my windows password on start up.... any ideas at all, HELP!!!!

Do a thorough anti-virus scan in 'Safe Mode' - then do an anti-spyware scan.

After that, go to Device Manager and disable the keyboard. Re-start the computer. The system will respond "Found new hardware" and install the correct drivers for the keyboard.

Did all that and then some,,, what it ended up being was a new program that COMCAST just put out,,, called CONSTANT GUARD.... be warned all, do NOT use this program! When i notified Comcast of their problem and asked for some sort of a gesture to make my time for correcting their problem. They told me I should have reported the problem to them right away, "Um Excuse me COMCAST,,, I had NO IDEA it was YOUR program causing the problem",,, took me HOURS spread across two days to figure it out.... and they wanted to blame ME for not reporting it right away,,, as if i knew it was their problem.... Needless to say, i am considering switching my internet and TV from comcast.

Something similar happened when I agreed to added security from a major financial institution. The bank offered me this 'free' added protection; since it was coming from the bank, that's why I agreed to it.

Major problems started as a result of this free added security. I could not uninstall this program. The program would not let me uninstall. So, I did a 'System Restore' to a date prior to the program. After doing that, I ran mt AV program, and also the anti-spyware program. Now all is fine.

I intend to go over and report this program to the branch manager, who I know personally. They probably were not aware of these problems pertaining to the program, or some VP of the bank was taken out to golf and dinner and agreed to the program on a corporate basis.

Comcast should compensate you for solving this problem for them, and in turn, saving Comcast thousands of dollars. Send them a technical report accompanied by an Invoice for services rendered. Address it to the VP of Marketing for North America, and copy the CEO, CFO, and the head of IT. The names and addresses will be available from corporate filings since it is a corporation.

I am serious on this. Do it very professionally, and quickly. Time is of the essence.

I added Constant Guard three days ago and now I have the exact same problem. How did you fix it? Was it as easy as just removing Constant Guard from your computer? Please help!

Yea i was having the problem a couple minutes ago, uninstalling it via the control panel/add or remove programs (windows) fixed it after a restart. They really should not release new programs without extensive testing -_-

I was also having this problem with the constant gaurd from comcast and after removing it, it seem to be working just fine. I was wondering if it was a dell thing or if other computer were having problems too?

Part of the problem is that many of these so-called 'free' programs offered from reputable business and financial institutions are really not tested very well. The users are the ones who provide them meaningful feedback, and then they respond and may or may not know how to correct the real issues.

I have had this problem for ages. I have no idea where it came from and it is only now getting to be a real issue, in certain programs i get only numbers when i type. I don't know about any added security that would make this happen on my machine. any other suggestions?

Wow it pisses me off that Constant Gaurd is behind this (If it is) I know that my mom will never let me remove it because Shes hardheaded and will trust Comcast more than me. Did anyone ever take action on letting Comcast know?

The problem can also be caused by GuardedID. These programs are designed to encrypt your entries to keep them secure for transmission across. For some reason they get glithcy and cause problems. If your not using Comcast's product take a look at this fix, it may cure what ales your system.

Typed letters appear as increasing numbers ( 0,1,2,3,4,5). Typed letters appear as numbers which increase instead of letters.

This issue could be caused by a software program called GuardedID. Follow the steps below to prevent the application from starting up or you may remove the application if you want to.

To prevent GID application from Starting Up:

Click Start
Click Run
Type "msconfig"
Select "Startup" tab
Unchecked GID desktop application
Press OK then reboot laptop.
or

To uninstall GID Application from Windows

Click Start
Click Control Panel
Click Add / Remove Programs
Search for "GID" / "GID Desktop Application
Select the item and select uninstall
Reboot when uninstall is done.

Hope this helps those coming to look for help!

That worked!!!!!! Thank you AsktheSafetyMan!! I've been having that trouble for years and everyone I've talked to had never heard of that problem. That will save me so much time. I was getting around the problem by typing what I needed to in Word then copying and pasting in the programs that it was affecting, but now I won't have to do that. Thanks again!!!
