My laptop cant read external hdd(hitachi 1 gb 2010)

My problem is my hd cant be recognize
The light on hdd still turn on green trying to change port with another hdd but still fail to recognize
Dont find anything in device management
It happen after my laptop collapse (overheating then autoblank) it happen everyday but nothing happen until yestarday and i am in upgrading windows 7 (installing updates from windows undates) when shutdown happen hdd intact
I try to system restore but dont find anything to restory it say no system restore
And one of thing that i think different maybe usually its noisy(hdd) but its quiet down now

I will try plug hdd in other pc/laptop maybe there is problem on hdd it self(i have try on other pc is find nothing) my hdd still unrecognize
Note its use ac adapter and i think there is no power problem
I have several hdd and the other are fine

So your laptop was overheating every day and you did nothing to fix that problem and now you are surprised that new problems happened??

You are all over the place in your thread and either you are just using the wrong terms or there is an important piece of info left out. You said your hard drive wont get recognized, but you said you are opening device manager which means you would have to be in windows.

If you attempted to install windows 7 and it shutdown be4 you finished then you need to wipe the drive and reinstall windows as the drive is not going to boot right now.


The noisy and now quite issue could be that your fan was getting clogged up with dust and having to work extra hard to spin at a fraction of the speed it should (hence the overheating) and the motor finally burnt up and stopped working from the extra resistance on the fan.

I would advise you to start the troubleshooting process with just connecting the drive to another system(I assume that you haven't done that already). That way, you will be sure whether the issue is caused by the HDD or by your system.
If it appears on the other system, you will have to upgrade your USB controllers.
If it doesn't appear on the other system, you can try changing the cable. If the issue persist, you need to go to Disk Management and see whether and how it is recognized over there. If it is not recognized by Disk Managemet and Device Manager(given the fact you have tried the HDD on two systems with different cables), you may need to take the drive out of the enclosure and connect it internally. Keep in mind that this may void the warranty.

Sorry english is not my language i live in asian country , i can undertand english but to write a sentence its hard
I think thats not really a problem just need to cooling it with air conditioner
And the windows is fine and working try to use several registry fixer and fine(i am just try to instal update from windows update when shutdown) having problem to instal ie11 after reinstal

The data mostly useless or backup so going for data recovery is not an option if its 10 bucks okay
But if its more then 30% of hd
I think its better to buy a new one
Well if it possible to use it without casing its okay but i find it hard to open even try to street corner shope
They say dont know how to open it and some say only data recov (what i need is hd recov)(even its a wipe clean slate) not data that important but the hd it self for use
(All my important data basicly soted in 3-4 device some even going as 6 place(always care for back up)

What i care is my hd function(even if it clean state) at least i can use it
I dont care about casing as long as i can story some backup or some thing i dont need (as spare hd)
I think for looking cheap solution to fix my hd
Bcoz its hard month and get 100$ for new hd is hard(my parents say will not give more hd(they say i got too much))(4)
Or there any shop you can recommend

After you don't need the data that is stored on it, then you have got nothing to loose. Just watch several videos(youtube lets say) on how to open up an external HDD and take the drive out of the enclosure. If the HDD inside is fine, you can either use it as an internal or get a third party enclosure and use it as an external one.
