I have a dell Inspiron 15 3521 laptop with 1.9 ghz processor intel core i3 3rd generation and 8 gb of ram. My laptop is getting hot while working and after I play games for couple minutes it became too hot that I cannot touch my touchpad.
Please help me to cool my laptop.

Does laptop coolpads help me to cool my laptop?

Solution

Laptop cooling pad + table fan blowing air directly at the laptop.

Elevating the laptop by 1" using spacers will help a lot because now there will be a direct flow of air under the laptop.

The tech told you that they cleaned it - they may not have cleaned it adequately or not at all. Don't rely on what the tech tells you. Either do it yourself or have it done in your presence.

This type of heat indicates a huge problem! The vents are probably clogged with dust!

Remove the battery. Use the manual as a guide and then carefully remove the back of the laptop. Then use a can of compressed air and carefully clean the dust away from the components. Keep the nozzle about 6" or more away from the components that you are cleaning.

Another possibility is that the heatsink fan has failed. If so, replace the fan.

The cleaning that you did is not adequate. Remove the battery, remove the cover under the laptop and clean the dust away. This will solve the issue. Others have done this successfully. If this cleaning is not done right, the problems will persist.

A laptop cooling pad will definitely help; but in this case it may not help enough. You stated that it is too hot to touch. This indicates a severe problem. A cooling pad may not solve the heat issue.

A laptop cooling pad along with a table fan blowing air directly at the laptop will help better.

What is the ambient temperature?

Did it EVER worked right under the same demanding conditions, or this is the first time you are pushing it?

Tell u what, if the touchpad gets that hot, it's obviously a badly designed laptop. all laptops get hot when pushed, but the heat is managed well, and certainly it should not be getting to your hands, unless you are surfing outside under sub-zero. :)

These are very high temps. - I am not satisfied with the reply that the Dell technician gave you regarding "heavy" work.

Video editing (and Photoshop work, CAD work) should not create such high temps. Work with Dell and get this laptop replaced.

I have done video editing, CAD work, and Photoshop work on multiple laptops as well as multiple desktops and never encountered any severe heat issues. Of course, regular cleaning off of dust from the insides of computers is a must.

Solution

Turn the AC full blast and sit next to it? 😀

You are repeating the same question, am sensing you are grasping for some magical fix.

Even though you did not reply to my questions am gonna throw you one last piece: When hot the fan(s) should sound like jet engines. That's all you get from being uncooperative.

Unfortunately no!

You cannot replace or upgrade the CPU in this system - it's a BGA (ball-grid array) CPU, meaning it is permanently soldered to the system board.

if the CPU fails, the mainboard must be replaced along with the CPU - the CPU isn't removeable.

Even replacing the mainboard will cost more than what the laptop is worth.

Personally, I think that the tech did no internal cleaning at all. This is why you saw no change. Over the years a lot of dust accumulates and creates poor heat transfer. Careful internal cleaning with a can of compressed air is a must and you will see a change in the heat situation.

After the careful cleaning, elevate the laptop using wood spacer bars, and use a table fan.

What is the temperature inside the room?

Different areas will have different temps. The battery will be warm, not hot. No part should be too hot to touch.

Use some temps monitoring programs to check the CPU temp. In normal use the CPU temp should not exceed 50 degrees C.

Use RealTemp, HWInfo, and similar free programs to check the temps.
