Around February 2017 I put together a gaming computer, it’s specs where as follows,
Intel i3-6100
Msi H170 Gaming m3
8gb’s hyperx fury 2133
1tb HDD
Rx 460 2gb
Bitfenix comrade case
Corsair 550w power supply
It ran games well, nothing amazing but worked well
January this year, I made some big upgrades to my pc, I got a Corsair liquid cooler, msi gtx1060 6gb a SSD, a p400s case, some rgb fans, nzxt hue+ rgb kit, and it was a sweet upgraded pc. Here are it’s new (current) specs
MSI gtx1060 6gb
Intel i3-6100
8gb’s hyperx ram 2133
Msi h170 gaming m3
Corsair liquid cooler, not sure exact model, has rgb Corsair logo on the block
P400s phanteks case
Corsair 550w power supply
I was very happy with my new pc and it ran games crazy good with the new 1060. But about 1 month ago (estimated) I started to get weird lag spikes in games (all games, no matter on max or min) this was very weird but I kept playing. A couple of days ago I started troubleshooting as the lag spikes had grown to being 3-15 seconds dropping to 2-5fps and sometimes freezing completely. After troubleshooting, removing antivirus, doing everything I could think of, it started getting worse, now it has continued to do this no matter what I do, when I first boot my computer, to opening google chrome, it is insanely slow, (slower than a prebuilt 2008 dell I have in a office) I do not know what is wrong with my computer, I tried to wipe my hard drive but it didn’t change anything. Please help me, I know it is sad, but my computer is one of my favourite things I have in life and it is too slow to do anything now, I have resulted to having to do everything on my phone as I cannot stand how long it takes to search something online on my pc. I cannot even lunch games it takes too long. Please help me, I need my computer back.

Solution
Maybe it's just a loose RAM module, power down and remove/replace the memory modules.
Also:
How much RAM does Task Manager report?
How much RAM is reported in the BIOS screen?

Its either a power-supply problem as suggested or a thermal issue. I would check to see what your CPU and GPU temps are while gaming. For CPU you can use Real temp and for GPU use MSI Afterburner.

It also could be a driver issue, I would download the latest Nvidia driver available for your card and select a custom/advanced installation option, then check the Clean Installation box. This option removes all traces of previous drivers. And it lets you not install of of the useless Nvidia software

An SSD wont improve frame rate at all only loading but is a good upgrade and depending one what games you are playing 8GB may not be enough.

One last thing you may seriously want to consider updating your CPU, your dual core i3 is getting dated when it comes to gaming.

The power supply is Corsair cx500, and I have a 240gb SSD

I have a cx500 Corsair power supply, could it be failing? I know I need to upgrade my cpu, but it wouldn’t cause the problem I am experiencing now. I also have a Corsair liquid cooler and my temps seem normal

First off try the following:
Make sure you have only system icons on the desktop, files and folders located here will be treated as system parts by Windows and will be constantly scanned to check their integrity, as well as being loaded at startup, greatly slowing the system.
Start the system and enter BIOS, check the CPU temperature, let it idle on the BIOS screen for a few minuets, tell us what it does.
Restart the system then download and install Ccleaner from here: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner, install and run it to clear out the system, a lot of annoying crud locates itself in the various .Temp folders scattered throughout Windows, this should get rid of them.
Still no improvement? Update ALL the system drivers, graphics, sound and chipset.

On my desktop I have steam, discord, GTA V, Speccy, and CCleaner
My CPU idles at 30-35 degrees,
I use CCleaner normally,
And I updated my graphics drivers today.
I noticed in task manager it says my RAM is at 95-100% even when I’m not doing anything, I check all the applications using it and it adds up to less than 1gb, I don’t understand why it is at 95-100%.
I think I must have a failing component

Both indicate just under 8gbs, I’ll try removing them now

Took out the ram and put it back in again, problem solved, you just saved me a few hundred bucks and my weekend. I wish I could thank you in person man. I hugely appreciate it.
