My monitor goes on and off when playing fallout new vegas

Hello,
When playing Fall Out New Vegas, right after the opening cinematic after 1 minute my monitor goes turns off for a few seconds then comes back on. The monitor then consistently turns off and on by itself. The power light remains blue while the screen goes black, if it was truly off it would have no light or would be orange if in sleep mode. When I exited the game it still happened while browsing on google chrome and even if the computer was being idle. I tried restarting my PC, it still happened randomly even on start-up while windows was booting. I shut down the PC then the problems went away but I'm scared my GPU or any hardware is now faulty and I'm also wondering how I can play fallout NV without this happening? Someone please help me.

I'm using a Viewsonic LED monitor and my nvidia driver is 275.33 and I'm on the latest fallout NV patch

What PSU do you have? Brand and model number would be very informative for us to better assess the situation.

Are you able to test the monitor on another system?

Try removing your video card and reseating it again , make sure its in perfectly, seen this happen on another system, might work or could be something else....worth a try.

Thanks for the replies guys, solved the problem it was just a bug of Fallout NV I fixed it by turning off windows aero and playing on Windows xp service pack 3 compatibility mode.
