My new SSD is working for .5 - 2hrs fine, then the usage will randomly shoot up to 100% and programs stop responding.

I tried switching to IDE from ahci, running disk checks, and using a different sata cable. Even when I'm not running my operating system off the SSD and just have it as storage, it will stop working after 30 minutes to an hour, and any program that was running off it will become unresponsive. Even when it's just idling and not doing any strenuous activity at all, it will eventually freeze up. I'm using windows 10 with 8gb ram and an i5-4690. It does not seem to happen in safe mode.

What specific SSD are you using? I know some SSD's have some sort of security function, not sure if this would happen though...
