Hey Everyone!

I am looking to get my next gaming laptop, but am having some difficulty choosing. I would prefer a more portable version and only plan on gaming on a full hd display if I connect to a monitor. While Cyberpunk is cool, I likely wont play that one much. I am coming from an i7 7th gen quad cpu and a max p 1070 mobile card. Price is not my main concern on these. If availability will be a problem until next year, I might go for the 3060 Zephyrus 14 but want to get feedback from all of you. Please share your thoughts and opinions. Thanks!

Hey there,

If it were me choosing, I'd be going with the Zepherus G15 Ryzen 5900HS/3080/32gb Ram/1TB SSD matches nicely with 165hz, and if money were no object. But of course there would be big differences in pricing depending which model you choose.

One buys a laptop for portability.
Once you need to attach a monitor, you lose that capability and might be better served with a desktop.
And, gaming performs better when plugged in.
But, with discrete graphics cards of the 3000 class in such short supply, I can see the merits of a laptop today.

Be careful.
I see many complaints about gaming laptops not performing well.
Usually gaming while plugged in.
One common cause is thermal throttling.
Laptop coolers must, of necessity be small and light.
They are also relatively underpowered.

Look for a laptop with the most robust cooler.
You will likely need to reduce the cpu performance to keep from throttling.

After Looking Further, I have it down to 4 models (I missed the Omen 15)(I am not looking at Alienware)

Asus Zephyrus G14 3060
Asus Zephyrus G15 3070
HP Omen 15 3070
MSI GE66 Raider 3080

(the 3080 version of the Zephyrus G15 isn't worth the extra amount and the 3080 GE66 isn't much more than the 3070)

Intel vs AMD does not matter to me.

Opinions?
