Hi,

I got an Core i3-2120 on a Gigabyte Motherboard (GA-Z77M-D3H).

I want to replace it with an AMD FX 6300 (AM3+) or AMD Athlon x4 760k (FM2).

This is for gaming and entertainment (Movie, MP3, etc...)

I got 2x AMD Radeon HD 7770 in crossfire.

My question is should I wait to see what AMD will do (After the AM3+), go with the FM2 or AM3+ chip or Stay as is?

I don't want to go with Core I5 because it will cost to much money (Going back to Full ATX board)...

Regards,

I see no real reason to upgrade from your current i3 to those CPUs, you wont see a big performance increase. I would recommend waiting and saving up for an i5, since your PC will take it. Also, if you are strapped for cash, you can probably sell your i3 on ebay for a quick buck and add that to the i5 purchase.

You don't need to go back to full ATX to go with an i5. Here are the list of compatible CPUs with that motherboard:

I'd take just about any of the i5 range (3350p and up) over an FX, any day. They will all outperform the AMD's by far.

Ok I5 it is but witch one? the 3350P, 3470 or go for the top 3570k?

What's your budget?

Even though it's a Z motherboard it's not worth overclocking on, so I'd not go with the K series.

If it were up to me I'd get a Xeon 1230v2. It performs identically to an i7 3770, but has no integrated graphics (which you won't need since you have the 7770's). It often sells for a lot cheaper than the i7 though!

If your budget doesn't extend that far, then the i5 3470 is a solid choice.
