today I got my gpu back from RMA service and installed the card and all the drivers and software. I had to reconfigure bios and also repair the pc as it had some problems. I downloaded the windows 10 creators update to patch the OS since it wouldnt update. I ran the creators update patch and the pc loaded up fine. I then ran all the software tools to cleanup the pc and get rid of excess crapware. I then ran ccleaner and to get rid of the old OS, I would run the ccleaner when it would delete the old.os windows files. I then restarted the pc to finish the cleanup process and now my pc is broken. The windows screen is missing and all is left is the Bios logo display and loading element. I can hear all the window sounds and it appears it has windows functions but I cant see what Iam doing. I have no windows display output, Just basic display into only BIOS and just BIOS logo loading screen. But everything is gone. What do I do? I have alot of files saved on my main boot drive. Some of my passwords and documents are on there and now I cant access them. WTF do I do? I spent almost 2 grand on this system and havent fully been able to use it or get it sucessfully running without any problems.

Here is my build: MSI z170 motherboard (with latest firmware on BIOS)
Intel 6600k@4,4 Ghz

16 Gb DDR4 corsair dominator ram
MSI 980ti
one 250 gb samsung 850 pro

one corsair 240 gb ssd

and a wd 1 tb drive

running on windows 10.

Im really concerned and having second thoughts. Im thinking about cutting my losses and settling for a prebuilt pc. I just wasted alot of money on this system.

Solution
so cant you keep the main drive for now, make a new install on one of the drives with the games oin it or buy another drive to put a clean windows install on, then get the pc up and running then see about getting the files off the main drive ?

If you’re certain that the drive has crashed you can remove it from the computer and connect it to another computer as a secondary drive. You can do this using a USB to IDE/SATA adapter.
If you can browse the contents of the drive it probably means that the operating system has been corrupted and the data on the drive is fine. If so you can try and copy the data from the failed drive to the drive on the computer you’re connected to.
not sure if it matters if its a SSD or HDD ?
I got that idea...

well the thing is this is my 3rd install on the drive. Had problems. One of them was frequent crashes and a faulty card WHich had been shipped twice (Now it runs fine) but the OS is what bugs me. Iam deadset on a prebuilt because those people know how to setup a pc and make sure its a clean optimized boot disc. Which is why Im vying for that option in the first place. It takes the long guesswork for me. I've literally spent days of wasted time to reinstall windows, reinstall drivers, update the system and have all my games and stuff setup the way I had it. And I dont want to keep doing it. So Ill leave it to a service that can do it for me and if I have problems. I dont have to take it up with the manufacturer's RMA service. Digital storm can do it for me.

its already listed. But for some reason. I have had windows 10 defected on me 3 times for no reason. One time just constant crashes. The other was because of a corrupt files system and it was constantly lagging and falling apart. Now this time. I'd have to admit its a bit of my own fault for trying to optimize windows the way I want it to after I installed the creators update. So I know its the OS build that can have a problem. Everything else works fine. But I dont want it anymore. And Im taking a huge loss since the motherboard I have is <mod edit> immaculate. The CPu overclocks fine and doesnt get hot. All the drives are "good" But Ill think Ill take my chances with a prebuilt if it means it will be covered by the service.

Pre build are ok and there not as bad as even one makes out, yes u pay more for the fact of someone else building it and installing all the stuff and yes it's much easier, mine was prebuilt and changed to how I like it, + the pace I got it from has given me a 3 year no questions asked warranty were they collect, fix and return at no cost, also I did my build on newegg and it was almost the same money for what I paid plus I got extremes lol so I guess the choice is yours :)

Yeah, but a pre-built is going to leave you with the same cleaning problems you have now. It makes more sense to learn to do it properly. It's no panacea, you've already done all the tasks that a builder would do for you - they're not going to update your Windows in the future for you, nor will they maintain your PC.

yeah, but most builder's can provide a warranty service and free labor. Which you cant do if you bought it all on your own and what happens when it falls apart and you need to fix it or RMA the machine? Unless you have a dedicated space for repairs and are super tech savvy and dont have to constantly search the forums or message a thousand people and have over 7 years of PC experience. I do suggest a prebuilt. Which is what Im going to do. They can do the installation and updates. And I can take over and finish the rest. If something goes wrong. Guess what? they have a warranty. Ill just take it back to them. You cant do that with Build it yourself orders or build the machine from scratch. I just want a perfect machine that will run with no problems and peace of mind that I can have a fully working machine...

Now unless you can provide a guide to have a flawless and perfectly optimized windows 10 for games and can show me every little trick and tip and trim the bloatware from a fresh install of windows 10 and remove all the privacy issues and safeguard my build. And show me how to maintain and keep the system clean and show me to clear cache installs of previous drivers and crap that lingers on a windows 10 build. Show me what registries I can safely edit and the values to input. And educate what certain apps do on windows 10. Im gonna have to consider a prebuilt.

A builder's warranty isn't going to cover routine cleaning up of Windows or updates; there seems to be a bit of a misconception on your part exactly what a pre-built is going to do for you. Nor is there some special configuration of Windows for gaming. And prebuilts have *more* crapware, not less as there's no additional bundled software in a straight-up copy of Windows. But you're an adult and it's your money to waste, so I wish you the best of luck.

Some things you have to be aware of before buying a pre-built:

Be very careful while buying a pre-built PC. Some have power supplies which are dangerous and can burn down your house.

you will have to pay at least 200$ more to get the same quality build.

Upgrading a pre-built system can be problematic in future because of no BIOS updates or an insufficient special power supply

Windows will be in most cases full of crapware/bloatware, preinstalled browser links/homepage, demos or "tuning apps" from the pre-built manufacturer

the system could be delivered with already outdated drivers, which could slow down your machine

warranty will only provide hardware replacement and reinstallation/resetting windows -> personal data will be lost, if you didn´t pay for a backup before
e.g. if a 6years warranty is advertised, you will only get a 12months warranty for the hardware and the rest of the warranty will only cover labour costs

If you still wanna buy a pre-built system, tell us which and where and we are happy to help, which could be ok and which won´t

Very succinct way of saying you'll get one of the worst possible powersupplies, on the absolute lowest possible quality motherboard, with little chance of upgrade due to proprietary connectivity and if you do get an included gpu, it will be an LE version with chopped channels and lackluster performance but having a bios tell you it's top of the line. Not to mention the OS that's not OEM windows, but OEM company, so installs differently, is full of seriously inane bs that absolutely useless to anyone with a clue, that can't be removed (kinda like the crud on most cellphones) without voiding some warranty or other etc etc etc.

There. Removed the sugar. Fix your pc. It's worth twice as much as any competitive pre-built and sacrificing something that good for a pc that wouldn't come even close to 5th place nevermind coming in a close second, is a fools errand.

What, exactly, do you mean by this?
You installed the OS on the SSD in the laptop?
Or something else completely?

So this is the drive from the desktop, and you're connecting it to the laptop via USB?

Those folders you are 'missing' live under the /Users/ Folder.
Open that, and you should see folders for each 'user' you had on the desktop.
Open one of those, and you might see Documents/Video/Pictures, etc....
Accessing these locations might involve 'Take Ownership'. They are linked to a whole different user.

Are you sure the files are not "hidden", some files or folders may be hidden, you have to uncheck the box to show hidden files ? Try this
1. Click on "Start"
2. Select "Control Panel"
3. Open "Folder Options"
4.Click on the "View" tab
5. Tick/select the"Show hidden files, folder and drives"
6. Click on "Apply"
7. Click on "Ok"

Why didn't you try to boot windows in SAFE MODE? There is a lot of info online how to do this. From there you can delete your wrong/problematic video drivers and install a new one. All your files will be there. Also have you tried to boot with integrated video by removing your GPU?

Ok OS on Samsung 850 Pro 250gb. Connect to another PC / Laptop via Sabrent USB 3.0 to SSD / 2.5-Inch SATA Hard Drive Adapter if you have one if not get one, they're cheap and very hand to have, I know. 2 install Recuva Free (also by Piriform) on the secondary PC. If it's the pro type even better. Run a scan on the Samsung Pro to see what files can be recovered. Now I am aware what people may be thinking, on an SSD, once files have been deleted, that's it, no going back, well I don't use HDD (I'm fortunate) just SSD's and I've managed in the past, whether by luck or or error. You might find that there is something still there. Whilst your there, download up to date display drivers onto the Samsung, always helps if the previous is corrupt.
Reconnect to your build and try to boot up in Safe Mode, see how you get on.

Update the Chipset Driver which will in turn update the graphic interface and display function -
I don't know much but found this a solution at one stage or another. It may be as simple as that -.

From the initial description you say 'I can hear all the windows sounds' - so it is booting to Windows - you just cannot see anything on the display?
So it sounds to me like the video output has 'switched'. e.g. if you have a HDMI monitor it may have switched to the VGA output, or DVI to VGA, or VGA to DMI, etc.
So if you can connect a monitor to the 'other' video output (or use a different cable if your monitor has one), you may be able to see a display. If you have a TV, you can try connecting that if it has suitable monitor inputs.

Dude Im already past this but now windows installation is giving me problems. Im updating drivers and I updated usb driver hub and it goes dead on me. I cant touch windows anymore. I might just consider selling everything later on and get a prebuilt from like Digital storm or somewhere. Let them install windows and get all the optimization for me and make sure I cant screw up booting up windows. I can go a few months and then something with windows 10 just stops working. Like literally updating windows or loading windows system just something goes wrong and not run properly. Everything else is fine but windows man. Its just giving me problems.
