All you need to do to turn it into a very good gaming/workstation rig:
1. i7-4770K or i7-4790K for about 200$ (if you are not heavy into virtualization with IOMMU, the 4770K is the same as 4790K)
2. GPU of your choice depending on the budget and monitor you going to use with.

Just look at the specs of my rig - I can play any game on any FPS. Same goes for work - i do codding and use virtual machines for different purposes.
If I were in your position, I'd start with upgrading the CPU and wait a bit for Nvidia to announce their new cards (supposedly this month) to make decision on GPU.
the best parts of your computer are RAM and PSU.
the rest is like 150$ all together if you are very lucky.
The PSU would be another 100$ and the RAM at least 100$ as well.
Unlike the other parts, this PSU is an excellent one and if you are going to continue to use PCs, don't sell it. Just put it in your next rig.
BTW, with upgrading the CPU and GPU you can turn this PC into an awesome gaming/workstation machine.
