Haha after reading your post kufan i couldn't stop laughing, you are indeed a stalwart individual.

If i honestly had to configure a setup based on this theory, i'm guessing it would be the two 640GB Caviar's in RAID0 for storage, with a SSD for the OS...or maybe even waste 300 more dollars and RAID0 two SSD's for the OS...

I mean, there is no doubt that would destroy anything;

Its such a hard decision i dunno what im gonna do i was thinking either x2 260's, 275,280 or a 4870x2.

Im not gonna be playing over 1900x1200 but pay this much money for a rig and not being able to play crysis at 1900x1200 with aa and af at under 40 fps just burns my sack.

Im also worried about power consumption whatever card i get assuming i dont get the 2 260's i play to buy another and am wondering about having a big enough PSU and proper cooling..

Sorry just stressing me out thinking about it lol 😀

Whatever you do, just remember that the new DX11 cards are coming out soon, so if you want to wait for those i'd recommend just buying a cheap 4870x2 in the meantime until the new cards come out.

yes i know, thanks for reminding me...makes my choice even harder...

Will there be any games out there that will support dx11 for a while or while games get new patches..

I havent played a pc games in about 6 years..

if u havent played PC games in 6 years, then ur in for a treat.

There may be DX11 games coming out some months after DX10, but i think some older games may patch-up to DX11. not sure, will have ot wait and see. some DX9 games did patch up to DX10, and Crysis was the DX10 early-adopter. so we can expect some similar trend

if u really want to up disk performance, I suggest you just get two Caviar blacks and do a RAID 0 volume. forget messing around with all these super expensive raptors and SSDs..... maybe a small SSD for ur OS and ur most critical apps/games could work, but I think the caviar blacks in RAID 0 ought to be mroe than enough. most benchmarks showing it performing quite similar to Raptors at a fraction of the cost.

I dont think right away there will, i mean its going to take a while for the DX11 industry to get moving just like DX10 did (even though it barely went anywhere).

In the meantime (imo. a year or so), you should just invest in a pretty good card, like a single GTX 275 or 285, or maybe even go the ATI route before DX11 even matters, but that's my opinion.

Oh i am very excited, i havent even been playing console games on a HD all CRT for me lol. Maybe i will pick up a $200 gpu and wait to see how the dx11 cards work out with patches and new games.

I dont even really know of any good games that are out for the PC besides crysis and Dragons age that is about to release. I am very excited to see some good games on a nice big monitor 2 feet away from me 😀

Does running raid take alot of power? i am completly new to the whole power consumtion factor of theese new gen systems.

Looking like im gonna go with the 4870x2 hopefully it will come down even more in a month 😀

Any recomendations on the PSU if 750 is enough?

Lol... what can I say? I get bored at work and research things like this.

I think my original way of thinking was that it didn't matter how fast the OS was. As long as the drive that contained the game files was fast as hell, it would load much faster. I honestly don't know if the OS has anything to do with how fast a game loads, but in the setup I have now, I hardly ever wait for games to load. Even that video of Crysis loading probably wasn't all that much fast than how long it takes mine to load. Usually games will pop up tips or briefings during loading, and I rarely get a chance to even read them because the game's already loaded; it's actually a little annoying lol. Why can't all games have that "Press Any Key to Continue" prompt?

I may look into getting a SSD for my OS... I'll let you know if I find out anything really interesting.

That's a good GPU setup if you don't mind having to have 2 cards from the get-go. They've got a lot of bang-for-the-buck, and I may be wrong, but I think the 2 of them generally have better performance than a GTX275 or 4890.

A 750W PSU should be enough for you unless you want to get into heavy overclocking, or have more than 2 GPU cards. 750W is enough for moderate overclocks and 2 video cards.

after doing a bit of research the 4850x2 looks like a great card if i am gonna ride the fence to see how the dx11 pans out.

I know its only ddr3 but its only $219 from new egg

ah yes the 4850x2 is pretty good too..

the 4870x2 is AMD's top performing card. it sits somewhere in between the GTX 295 and the GTX 285. tyhe 4850x2 is the cheaper option and more than enough for ur chosen resolution... if u go with that just get the 1GB version, should be more than enough. 2GB seems much pricier.... still if it were me, I'd get the GTX 275 cos i like nvidia :)

well after doing much more research the 4890 looks nice and then when i get a tad more money i can get another one...but i will probly still change my mind again lol...but 2 4890 in crossfire looks like it will destroy just about everything with aa on at higher resolutions.
