Well speaking of hacks...

Me and a bunch of guys from work have been playing BF for a while, so we
decided to challenge others. So we signed up on some of the clan ladders to
play. Last week we played a clan and this one guy was doing some amazing
things. Like finding you no matter where you were, shooting you from clear
across the map with a shotgun and killing you, and seeing taking you out
with sniper rifes from the other end of berlin.

We had a few others post on our site to watch out for this guy, because they
thought he was cheating as well.

So I decided I would do a little research into this cheating aka hacking
with BF and punkbuster. What I found was...

There are two ways of hacking. They involve mucking around with memory
address on your PC. They mainly used "code caves" to hide the code from
PunkBuster, but PunkBuster now detects most of those. So now they have
moved to DMA hacking, which I guess isn't found by PB as often.

Just about all of the Public Hacks are detected by PB, and if you want to
run a non-detected hack, you should do it yourself. There are plenty of
readme's on the subject.

So I downloaded some of the popular hacks to see what all can be done,
changed my server to a non-PB server and tested them out against my
friends....

Accuracy Hack - The cross-hair always stays small aka more accurate
Fog Hack - This is AWESOME !!! When I turn it on, I could see clear across
the map on berlin into the America's base from the water.. crazy
Mini-Map Hack - This is a crazy one.. This allows you to see both teams
positions on your mini-map. No more hiding
Glowing Name Tags - This turns on Name tags just about all the time, and
they flash like if everyone had stolen the flag in CTF.
Scope - This is a funny one, it puts a sniper scope on all of your
weapons...
Artillery - I wish this was built into the game. We all have been in
partially and no one spots for us. With this hack, you spot, jump in the
vehicle, then move the camera view around by your self. Its very cool !!

I haven't been able to find any to find a speed hack, and the boards have
"STORIES" about playing on a server where someone had a hack that gave them
more health, and cause more damage, but all I can find are stories.

I would like to know if there really are more health hacks, more damage
hacks, and speed hacks, and ammo hacks (in multiplayer, single player does
have these. In Multiplayer the damage and recoil among other things are
handled by the server, from what I have been told and seen in some of my
Server Side Modding.)

I am a lot more suspicious of players who seem to have a lot of luck, and I
am not as impressed any more by them. But in the end, who really cares if
people cheat or not. I figure it just makes me a better player because I am
forced to get better because others are cheating.... If the cheaters don't
anialite me or the server, let them play... I don't care.

....and cheating was fun for the first few games I played against my friends,
but after a few games it got kind of lame.

Anyway's, that's what I have learned so far, let me know what you think, or
other info you have on these cheats....

Enjoy,
Matt

I know what you mean by hacks make your game play worse. I play CTF mostly,
and I noticed that instead of storming in to take the flag I now go around
to try to kill everyone in the base, which usually gets me killed. And I
was so amazed by the mini-map hack that I never took my eyes off it, I could
see how it could dull your hearing sences.

I will have to see if I can find that hack server. It would be kind of fun
to see how I can do without running hacks. But like you said, it is a
novelty and it does wear off quickly, at least it did for me.

BTW: I talked to "SplIce" on IRC, he is the creator of the "pt..." public
hack. I asked him about the ani-recoil because I couldn't get it to work.
I was testing it out with a sniper rifle, and the recoil seemed to be the
same wether it was on, or off. He told me that the recoil is handled by the
server.

I am a server admin, and I like to change up the maps abit. So I will add
vehicles, make nitro-cars, car-bombs, etc to maps. I tried changing the RPG
to shoot SCUD's. So when you shot an RPG, you would see the SCUD bomb come
out... Didn't work too well, but thats the kind of "hacking" I am into. It
lets everyone share in the fun.

Shoot me off an e-mail with that hack server. I have an internet spam
accout that deletes and sends a reply to all messages it receives with
instructions on how to get on the "friends list" I will be on the lookout
for your e-mail. Matthew@FamilyHuff.com or go to www.SleepingAtWork.com
and click the "Send E-Mail" button.

And while you are at sleepingatwork.com check out the "Battlefield Stuff" I
have some video's I made. The best is the "Nuke" video.
