Hello
i have an Asus laptop that comes in with a 1 tb HDD drive and i recently bought an ssd (240 gb) and replaced the dvd drive with a rack for the hdd so i can boot the system on the ssd and use the hdd for storage (i'm pretty sure everyone is familiar with that).

everything seems to work fine (windows boots on the ssd and it's fine) but my hdd drives that i use for storage disappear sometimes until i restart the laptop or put it to sleep and then turn it on again.
it's a problem since sometimes i be using files from the hdd on a program that is installed in the ssd and suddenly it disappears. ( as i'm typing this now they appear but after sometime they will disappear).

things to note : i didn't clean wipe my hdd as i have a lot of data that i need (650 gb) so i didn't clean wipe it and i can still boot the system from it if i choose to from the bios settings.
i'm running Windows 10 Home.
Laptop model : Asus Vivobook X540LJ

How can i fix this problem?
is it power related? does the laptop choose to turn off the hdd to save power even tho this happens when my charger is plugged to the laptop?
is it a problem with drivers? i read somewhere that someone fixed this problem by updating the sound card drivers since they had the same irl channel or something but that didn't work with me (updating the sound card driver).

You can try to tweak the power management so that the USB ports will never go to sleep.

Not saying that it's the solution for your issue but it's something you definitely have to try.

Hello)
i appreciate your reply.

the HDD is conencted to the motherboard using a SATA caddy that replaces the DVD drive, the usb ports are fully functional so i doubt tweaking that would fix my problem( maybe if there was an option to tweak that involved the sata ports then yes but for now i'm clueless lol.

Once again thank you for your reply it's highly appreciated.

Ah ok, I thought you are using an external USB 3.0 enclosure for your HDD.

It's weird that an SATA HDD disappears from the interface, even if the HDD stops it should still be visible.

Does it also happen when your laptop is connected to the wall adapter?

Yes it does even when it's plugged (like right now, it just disappeared)
