Hello!

My problem with my PC is that after my latest Win11 reinstall, I started having some issues with my entire USB set, yes it randomly resets. Not cool while playing ETS2

For troubleshooting I went over a few things, I have recently updated my BIOS without problems (as far as I know). I before had problems with my entire system lagging during gaming because of the old L-Connect 2 software, after closing it the lag went away. Back then didn't I have any problems with my USB, and the only hardware addition since then has been an onboard SSD. I also have the latest chipset drivers installed ofc.

I would like to know how to troubleshoot this, to find a solution.

Note: I also tried turning off power saving for my USB ports, at first I thought it worked but it didn't.

which version of win 11?
  1. right click start
  2. choose run...
  3. type winver and press enter
  4. current version is 24H2
USB generally built into windows, have you got all the updates?

there is one USB related issue with 24H2 - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2#3446msgdesc

Lian li need a controller box that works with all their versions, its silly some people have up to 3 of them in the system.
I assume L Connect 3 doesn't work with your hardware?

It says 23H2, could this be the issue?
I can see that there is an optional 23H2 update for Windows 11.

I can't see a way to get 24H2 through the Windows update feature.

I doubt that the USB port reset thing would be fixed by updating win 11.
24H2 is only fairly new, it will show up in windows update when its ready. Its also got its own issues.

what happens when the USB ports reset?

what are specs of the PC?

Why did you reinstall?

could be a faulty USB device?? could be tripping the connection. Just a thought.

1. what happens when the USB ports reset?
Sometimes the PC is just idling when all my USB devices turn off and then back on, at other times it happens when I game. Sometimes it does not seem to happen for hours, it's quite random.

2. what are specs of the PC?
Are you thinking of anything specific?

Motherboard: MSI B550-A PRO
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
RAM: 32 GB
GPU: RX 6800 XT
PSU: 850 watt
4 SSDs and one HDD.

3. Why did you reinstall?
Windows had been installed for about a year and was giving me some sort of performance issue plus I got new hardware. I must admit, I'll reinstall Windows over almost anything annoying me.

4. could be a faulty USB device?? could be tripping the connection. Just a thought.
Just out of nowhere? I find it a bit hard to believe that what was connected before the reinstall, before the resets has suddenly gone broken. But I don't know what to disconnect, for troubleshooting because I only really have a mouse, keyboard, condenser microphone, and printer connected via USB. Sometimes I also use a Logitech G935 headset and a Logitech G29.

It would be cool if I could buy an easy-to-use USB troubleshooter/tester of sorts, software or hardware.

Specs: no, just might help

not sure if this would help
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

How often does it happen?
Could do a clean boot and see if it happens with no Non Microsoft programs running at startup = could be a program conflicting with them.

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

It doesn’t delete anything, it just stops non Microsoft programs running with start. Easy to reverse.

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Sometimes the PC is just idling when all my USB devices turn off and then back on, at other times it happens when I game. Sometimes it does not seem to happen for hours, it's quite random.
curious if anything shows in reliability history when this happens - search for it in windows search.
So you don't get the USB d/c sound when it happens?

What are new parts? Since it worked fine before windows install, were they installed then?

When it comes to startup programs, my suspicion still falls on L-Connect 3.
I'll try isolating the startup programs later.

For the windows log, there are errors and warnings. But I just had another USB reset while writing this, and the windows logger didn't write anything.

The latest error writes (I used google translate on this)
The AMDRyzenMasterDriverV27 service failed to start due to the following error:
The specified file was not found.

I might just reinstall windows over this :/

did you install latest chipset drivers?
https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/chipsets/am4/b550.html
cause I think ryzenmaster is part of those.

Is L Connect 3 for fans? which ones have you got?
almost all devices in PC are connected to the Pci Bus so if one is playing up, it can cause others to mess up too. I had a mouse a few years ago that would cause GPU to stop working. That took a few months to work out.

Yes, I already have the chipset drivers installed and now I have installed those you linked to.

Yes, I have 5 Lian-Li fans installed and they're connected to a hub that has a direct connection to one of the motherboard's USB outputs. This fan hub even has its own firmware that I updated when I installed L Connect 3.
As it has given me trouble before, do my suspicions still fall on that..

I'm a bit hopeless about what this issue of mine is concerned, because it's not easy for me to figure out where the problem lies.

I wonder what it uses the USB for. I mean, the Controller has 3 cables
1 PWM for Fan control
1 ARGB for lighting
1 USB for - I see some saying its to control top 2 but that seems redundant to me, if its already plugged into them. It might be.

I have 3 TL fans. Only installed them last Tuesday so its all fairly fresh.

I do see other people reporting L Connect 3 making USB devices restart.
What do you use it for? RGB or controlling fan speeds?
I fnd it buggy, it keeps asking me to set up order of fans again - I have the lcd ones.

My guess would be that it uses the USB connection for access to the fan controller hub, for stuff like the firmware update I mentioned.

These are some really expensive fans which makes me think that they should work as intended, but it might also just be the hardpoint of these issues.
Come to think of it, the USB problems I'm having may just have started after I did the firmware update for the fan controller hub. As in, again do I stand over for an issue that I didn't cause.

Probably correct there. looking at page to update firmware it says to make sure USB is attached, so you right.

Mine weren't cheap, still paying them off. Mine fulfilled their purpose, they are quieter than the fans I replaced.

You got version 2.0.22 I guess
shame only fan that has manual update page now is the SL Wireless - newest fans that come with some interesting restrictions. More fans you add, more USB 2 connections you have. Most new boards only have 2 headers.,.. but I digress.

Were you using a previous version before? I assume you can't get it now?
nvm, you flashed controller, I don't think you could put an older version on... maybe

I wouldn't do it without asking Lian LI anyway.

I don't see anything here - https://lian-li.com/faq/faq_l-connect-3/ - but you might need to ask them about solutions
Could try the 3rd choice down, might help.

Yeah, before it was the L-Connect software that gave me problems now it's the lian-li fan controller hub.
My only question is if they will run without that USB connection, but then again - I'll have to open up my "messy" computer and disconnect it. It will have to wait, but then again; have we found the problem, might I just give it a go. Grr why can't stuff just work x(

It looks like USB is also used to control the ARGB unless you just using the motherboards lighting program.

Which model fans are they? Some like mine have to run direct off controller but some of the earlier model Uni fans could run direct off motherboard and ignore the controller. The more lights/screens they add, the more power they need. Mine need a 6 pin PCIe cable to run... or would if screens didn't take too much CPU to run.

I need to crash soon, its almost 2am here.

I appreciate the help and don't let me keep you awake for this, if I wasn't a gamer this would be a minor issue.

I have the Lian Li UNI FAN SL V2 120 RGB PWM Fan 3 Pack, plus 2 extra UNI FAN SL V2 120 RGB fans.

Having USB randomly restart is hardly minor. I would want to fix it even if PC sits here doing nothing most days.

You only need it for controlling ARGB using L Connect 3 or updating bios. If you use it for controlling fans, you could try Fan Control instead
Its good, I was using it up until a week ago.
just pass control over to motherboard in L Connect.

As for ARGB

No idea what MSI Mystic Light is like. I haven't used it. Seems you would have to install MSI Centre to get it.
So far of all the hardware makers,
  1. Corsair seem to have best lighting package.
  2. L Connect is pretty basic
  3. Though its better than windows 11's version.
  4. Gigabytes RGB program had me hoping L Connect 3 would be better.
I wish there was just one software that did it all... I have to use 3 rgb programs to get my PC to look OK.
Signal RGB is one possible choice - it knows motherboard and the fans

I better go or I won't wake up in time tomorrow... today.
