[SOLVED] My y key won't work, and i cant keep copy pasting the letter y to use it

I can't type y for some reason, I know this isn't hardware because I tried typing it with my laptops internal keyboard and my external keyboard. I have tried everything.

when I am trying to log in to windows it works, and I do have software that can register hotkeys, gk61 drivers, and g-hub. i tried reinstalling both of them and it didnt change anything.

Easy fix would to be to t(wai)pe the letter (wai) like this for the time being. It reads to easil(wai), and all.

Aside from testing with a new keyboard I cannot suggest anything.

Try using a German keyboard layout.
It has interchanged Y and Z.

Try to uninstall those completely. Then you'll at least have narrowed the issue down if it solve the problem.

Might not be a bad idea to run a virus/malware scan too.

Just a fast check-up that'll strip the whole Windows thing and see if it is actually a driver problem, try creating a live Ubuntu USB and boot from it. Then try your Y key there. If it works, it's definitely Windows or the drivers. If not, the keyboard is bread.

@howtobeironic - OP have already tested the Y key ok in the Windows login screen, and thereby ruled out a keyboard issue.

Oops, I got distracted by something else while reading that part. Then how about removing EVERYTHING about the keyboard and let Windows load its generic driver? Remove all those gamer programs. Remove the keyboard from Device Manager as well. Try the key. Restart, try the key again.
