Mystery item attached to(?) Network

I've got two PCs networked via ethernet cable, one running Win 7 and one Win 10. I rarely need to access one from the other, but on doing so today there is a third entry (i.e. other than the PCs themselves) under Network in File Explorer, listed as FUJITSU-I31SEQ and visible on both PCs .

If I try to access it I am prompted for a password, and neither of the user account passwords I use for logging into the PCs themselves is valid. I've Googled the device name as listed, with no results. I haven't attached any new devices to either PC, USB or otherwise, so I'm mystified as to what this network entry relates to. Any ideas?

Your systems are connected to the router, right?
"Both PCs are also connected to the internet wirelessly via the router in my housemate's room."

Another device, connected to that same router, may be seen by your systems.

Ask your housemate.

Are the computers connected directly to each other via Ethernet cable, or via a router?

If by router, have you checked the DHCP or wireless status for this unknown device? You should be able to block this device through the router's access control panel.

Hi, BuddhaSkoota - directly via a crossover ethernet cable, i.e. without a router physically between them. Both PCs are also connected to the internet wirelessly via the router in my housemate's room. I've never seen the router itself - is it possible that that's what the Fujitsu device is? I've been using it for 3 months, and it didn't used to show up as part of the network on my PC.

Could be a cellphone, tablet, or other device that your housemate has connected.

Hi, USAFRet. How do you mean, "connected"? The network I'm looking at is the one between my two PCs via the crossover ethernet cable, which to my mind should be the only components of that Windows Network. How is this other device connected to that network when I haven't added it?

Thanks, USAFRet. I've looked at the Network Map under Control Panel, and it seems I've misunderstood the terminology. I had thought that I'd connected the PCs under a new, wired network and that that was what the entry at the top level of the File Explorer 'tree' structure (i.e. along with entries such as Favorites, Libraries, Computer, etc.) referred to. Long story short, I now understand that the direct connection shows under the Homegroup, and that the Network is, as you've suggested, the wireless internet connection and associated devices. Thanks!
