NAS box thoughts

Hey everyone

Well I am planning on making the move to a NAS box at home.

I've been doing some research and I'm seeing Synology come up a lot in reviews but I'd love some community feedback based on experience.

The box will be used as a media server primarily and connected to the TV. HDMI a must, with some need for back up and remote access. I'd love to be able to watch videos off it whilst travelling and not take a HD.

Storage needs to be reasonable, however given HD sizes these days two bays probably cuts it anyway.

Anyway so lively discussion on the pros and cons of different models and any recommendations would be awesome.

Most NAS units don't connect to a TV via HDMI. They would stream to a player, either standalone or built-in. Q-NAP has NAS units with HDMI. I don't know of a Synology unit with HDMI.

Aah see this is my problem.

Streaming is fine but I'd prefer to have HDMI connection. QNAP are on my radar but like I said community feedback would be awesome.

Have you read the NAS reviews on SmallNetBuilder.com ?
