I need a NAS that can use random disks. I Currently have 6 drives in my desktop that I am using for storage. 1 is an ssd for my os so we don't need to count that. the other 5 are random 1tb drives. I know I won't be able to afford to get 4x4tb drives like I would like eventually so I need to use the drives I have for now and upgrade 1 at a time over the next year most likely.
I have a friend with a drobo that he swears by, but I have heard some things that make me hesitant to go that route.
anyone else have any suggestions? prefer a 4bay or possibly larger to have room for growth.
another option I have but I am unsure how it would work.. is I have another pc at my house that is not used. is there a good solution that I could use to setup that old pc as a nas?
