Need a CPU that wont bottleneck the GTX 980. First time building entire PC and am not really sure.

Price doesn't matter much although the cheaper the better. Just need something that I will be 100% sure wont bottlenect the GTX 980.

All help is appreciated. :)

Whatever you do, don't go with the AMD FX series, these in general perform really terribly in a huge number of games. If you are looking for a performance gaming machine AMD simply doesn't have anything to compete with Intel i5 and i7 chips these days.

Replace i5 with i3 and you might have a point, not so terrible if you can get them super cheap, like in the bargain bin at walmart where they belong.

I agree with LukaBoki, the AMD FX-8XX0 are not bad, but the i5 Haswell simply perform better.

If you wanna ensure performance, go with 4-core i5s.

Have you ever even used a 6300 or 8320? If you did I think you would have a had a more intelligent response to the op's question.

Nope, I do a Phenom II x4 965BE which is overclocked and still performs abysmally bad though and have seen piles of benchmarks of those years old designs and have used many i3's that are bout on par with them though. AMD hasn't been relevant in performance gaming machines for years.

That's like saying you're gonna buy a Ducati but the wheel's are BMX wheels. Expect yourself to fumble.
