Need a Samsung 2243BWX edid

I just got a Samsung 2243BWX, but the EDID (extended display identification data) is not correct for the monitor. I'm trying to get my hands on the correct EDID so I can actually get my widescreen monitor to act as a widescreen monitor. If someone could post the EDID from their 2243BWX, I'd greatly appreciate it. To get the EDID, you just have to download MonInfo (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/moninfo.exe) and copy and paste the report it generates. Thanks in advance!

Its PnP, you should just set it at 1680 x 1050.

It's PnP in so far as the EDID is correct and states the proper display size and maximum resolution. Since the display size given in the generic EDID is 1:1.333 and not 16:10, the monitor is not plug and play and will not allow usage of widescreen resolutions since Nvidia does not allow you to ignore the EDID under Windows.

have you tried to add custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel?

Yup. Doing that just ends up with Windows generating a virtual desktop at widescreen resolution or any 1.33:1 resolution above 1280x1024, which is the maximum resolution according to the EDID on this monitor.

Probably user error. Set native resolution in the control panel. The other stuff is only there for specs.

Unfortunately, I've already contacted Samsung. Even their top tier techs don't know a thing about EDID. Did I mention this monitor is a warranty replacement for another Samsung monitor that failed after 2 years? Not only is Samsung unable to fix the problem, they refuse to take back this replacement, so unless I get this fixed myself, I have a semi-functional display thanks to Samsung's ineptitude. If you ever consider buying a Samsung display, do yourself a favor and don't.

@pcgamer12: I'm not aware of a way to set native resolution with Nvidia's drivers. Where might I find that?

Have you tried to uncheck the options "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display"? (if you are in vista-> right-click on desktop-> personalise->display settings-> monitor)

Maybe that could work.

Edit: I just remembered that with my 226bw came a driver disk, did you install them ( im not sure I installed mine, maybe that could work)

Well, I just flashed my monitor with your EDID, BigBurn, and guess what? I now have a functional monitor. Thanks a lot for posting your EDID! Our monitors are indeed quite similar, and it looks like all the important specs are exactly the same, so I think I'm good. Thanks again!

I guess I'm having a similar problem

I recently bought a Samsung 2243BWX and its a great monitor - except I can't get it to display correctly in Windows. I actually can't get it out of 640 x 480 mode unless I use Powerstrip to force it to 1680 x 1050, but it caps it at 256 colors. It will not let me go outside this range for some reason. I also upgraded from a Geforce 8500GT to a Geforce 9800GTX and I still have the same problem. While in Windows I'm stuck in this resolution, but when I go into EQ2, it seems to have no problem going to a better resolution.

I've also noticed that if I strip out the NVidia drivers and go to the standard windows VGA, it let's me go to about 1024 x 768.

I read the post above about getting the correct EDID information, but I'm just not clear on how to correct the EDID. It looks like that registering Powerstrip will allow me to do this, but I'm not certain and I don't want to kill my monitor.

What's the problem with Samsung and EDID's. I recently bought 4 P2350 displays and 3 of them have a problem with their EDID. This can be caused by the way I put everything together as the only monitor working corrently initially had a loose power cable which I only noticed after the whole setup was started. It does take a bit of time to set up a computer and 4 connected monitors with all DVI and power cables involved. I currently believe the Samsung monitors fall back to some incorrect EDID setting if the proper video signal isn't provided in time.

Somehow Samsung needs to get their act together and fix these EDID issues. So get together with MicroSoft and the display card manufacturers to create some means of setting the proper EDID regardless of whatever is provided by the monitor.
