Need a way to "project" my phone onto my monitor.

I would like to use some sort of software that can project my phone's screen onto my PC's screen. I hear there's some form of cable that has a USB input and a VGA output, however, this won't work for me as I need to see my phones screen on my computer's screen. I am assuming that my phone's charger (with a USB detachable output) will work perfectly, but I'll need some sort of software to accomplish it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 .
If anyone's got a clue or advice, I really need to hear it!

if you are on windows 10, then you can use miracast to do it. it's built into windows and wireless.

enable it on the phone and the pc and they will connect.

If only I didn't hate windows 10 and stuck to windows 8 to this day lol
Any other solutions for win8 by chance?

miracast was beta on win 8 so you may get it working there as well. i believe it was called wireless monitor or something like that on win 8

It would be a huge favor to ask, but could you find the website where I can install it?
I've been searching for a little while, I can't seem to find it.

as far as i know it is part of win 8.1 and there is nothing to install.

you just go to display settings and "add wireless monitor" or something like that. i don't have win 8 installed so can't see for sure what it is called.

i also found this website which shows how to do it with a couple apps and the USB cable. might be what you are looking for as an easy wired solution. http://androidflagship.com/10572-how-to-turn-on-screen-mirroring-on-galaxy-s5

it's the last entry. says win 8 laptop but would also work on a pc.
