I am looking to buy a minotor for my new gaming rig that i just had custome built but really need to decide on a monitor! I have done my research on both IPS and TN monitors and without personal user experience I am honestly stumped on which one to buy!

My hopes are to go with the BenQ xl2420t @120hz or a similar Asus at @144hz, however I have heard that colors and viewing quality on these 120Hz+ monitors are pretty sub standard. I don't know much about monitors besides that i currently have a HP W2207H Tn and it looks just fine to me when i play games on it - the colors are fine nothing to complain about - its just got a bit lower resolution and its only 60HZ which is why i want to replace it, but my question is this, If i buy myself a nice Benq Xl2420t or a similar 144hz Asus am I going to see a significant decrease in Image quality/Colors compared to my older HP W2207H? If thats the case than I will consider buying myself a Nice IPS monitor instread as it would seem these 120HZ+ monitors are to get nothing more than an edge on other players during online gaming.

Based on you're personal experience, do you think I will be disatisfyed with the image qualitly (While gaming, not photo editing) of the BenQ Xl2420t 120hz coming from an HP W2207h and go for an IPS OR will the image quality be just fine and let me freely enjoy the 120HZ 2ms resoponse time of the benq?

I just don't want pure gaming preformance but game preformance/smoothness + A beautifull gaming experience!

You will likely see an improvement if anything, with a new monitor compared to your old monitor. TN technology continues to improve, even in colors and viewing angles (what you really mean is color shift though).

I saw a huge improvement in colors, sharpness when buying my 120hz monitor. It might not be as good at color production as an IPS monitor, but the 120hz sure makes things smoother and responsive when I have good FPS to go with it. Plus I like 3D a lot.

The new IPS monitors are not as slow as they were before.
I tried U2412M for playing Mass Effect 3 and I can not tell any ghosting effects (subjective impression).

IPS panel image quality is more or less comparable to those iPad/iPhone screen display.
and TN panel...well..you know it already...not that good..but fast even for 3D gaming experience

Unfortunately, I still can not find such IPS image quality for fast 3D monitors.

So...you have to choose...3D with less image quality or better image quality but without 3D...

So choose :)

For me, I choose image quality over 3D or fast response.
bystander above has the opposite preference.

It is your call.
