Well motherboard is kinda old (pcie v1), and for games i dont know CS:GO, garry's mod, maybe Far Cry 3/4

With 2gb ram and that dual core processor you won't be able to play far cry 3/4, i don't know about the others...
In my opinion, it is not worth investing in a GPU for a system that old.. Also a 7950/6970 will require a good PSU... You have mentioned that you have a 500W PSU... what brand is it?
I would suggest you to may be increase the RAM to atleast 4gb and then buy a more entry level GPU (like a gtx750) for casual gaming...
But if you interested in playing titles like far cry 3/4, you will need to upgrade your system completely...
BTW what's the price of the 7950/6970, which you are going to purchase?
