Need Advice on Dell 8700 videocard upgrade... Christmas gift for husband...

Getting a new video card for my husband for Christmas. The card in the Dell 8700 system is 'ok'... but games looks sort of muddy with it... honestly have no idea what I am looking for. I just hijacked his old toms hardware account and came here.

GeForce GTX 970? It looks like the 970's are in my price range. A good choice? What else will I need with it? A power supply? I need links please To Amazon or Newegg...

OVERCLOCKING: NO

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1080p I guess? Not sure...

A 970 would be a good choice for 1080p and probably wouldn't require a PSU upgrade. If he has or is intending on 2K or 4K gaming though get a R9 390X although you probably need a new PSU if you go that route.

another consideration to remember is the physical size of the card. make sure it fits in the case.

though, this guy was able to fit an EVGA GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 just barely
