I was selecting my parts for a build, i was pretty much done. But then someone told me to try an AMD build instead, because its cheaper and it might allow me to get a better graphics card than i was choosing (that was the 5770) they suggested a 5850.

So if anyone has any AMD gaming build suggestions for around 900$ that would be great.

I changed it to the correct price. It's at $809.93. If he wants to go a better case and CPU cooler, then ok. Whatever. There's room for that. These builds are meant to be guides, not some set in stone YOU MUST BUY THIS type of thing. Christ almighty.

ugggg good job not helping the OP at all terry1212, and @ LAG269, 1600 MHz is better for ocing, but the performance diff between it and 1333 MHz is negligable. the i5 build will be better, but the problem is future proofness. am3 sockets will go on to support 6-core cpus, and beyond, where as 1156 will not for a while, or ever. since am3 is more future proof, but 1156 has better performance (not toooo much, but some) it is up to you...also oc'ing will make the difference even less noticable.

Not helping the OP at all. Yet another non-elaborate post. :ange: You're just full of statements aren't you?

So in your opinion, which would YOU go with?

I've never overclocked before, I've only had stock.

And you say future proof, what do you mean by that?

Like down the road, what might i add to my PC that i would need the "future proof" AMD for?

@Teryy1212 youve spent most of your time aimlessly insulting me, being defensive, and not learning from your mistakes, you suggested the first build which wasnt too great, and the second, which is decent, still didnt do much for the secondary parts...you have posted on this thread 9 times, only 2 of which were remotely helpful to the OP, who has been very patient, i on the other hand, im 6 for 10, and the 4 were just defending your insults, of which i dont think u have a clue about what ur talking about. 7/9 of your argument consisted of you:

1. Insulting me
2. being immature
3. saying the OP wasnt specific enough
4. mis-info
5. saying to get less quality, lower performing, more expensive parts

@LAG269, future proofness means, in 5 years, your comp will be getting slow again, not be able to run some games as high as you want...with am3, you can put a 6-core+ cpu in there, and not need an entirely new build. with 1156, you will likely need an entirely new build, costing more money. mild oc'ing is super easy, up voltage, up multiplier, repeat until maxed out, or at around 3.4ish for i5, 3.7ish for am3, that is easily attainable. if you need more specific help, then ask here, but its quite easy, even going more in depth...

Where did this thread go wrong? It went wrong when you said the RAM I picked was bad and the case I picked was lame. Don't try to come off as the mature one when you're the one who started this whole mess. In each of those posts, you just made statements, you never provided an explanation as to why this is bad, or why this is lame, etc. You just make statements without providing a constructive backing. Just because your build works, doesn't mean mine doesn't. We're talking about building a computer. There isn't anything set in stone. The OP can look at people's posts and make the necessary changes to fit his/her liking.

Yeah like.. the "debate" that keeps going, i don't really mind lol..

As for 5 years from now, i will be out of college and i will have my own job, im sure i will want to just build a new PC by then probably. I find it interesting and fun lol.

Well, for now..
If i buy that AMD build you showed me, and i add another 4GB of ram, to a total of 8GB of ram, and i have the 5850 GPU, would that be better than my i5 build?
because that would make them both the same price. So now its just choosing between those (according to performance) gaming and basic performance, that is.

Alright, so both with 4GB of ram.

The i5 build VS. The AMD build.

Which one is better in performance? Overall.
