Hello Tom's Hardware

So I recently sold my Intel Core i3-4160 CPU (Haswell-R) to a customer and when he tested the CPU he said that the CPU did not post in his system.

My motherboard is an ASRock H81M VG4 rev. 2 (bios 1.5 "supports haswell r")
And before I shipped it, I tested the CPU and is perfectly fine no flaws.

He tested the CPU with a Gigabyte H81M DS2 rev. 3 which technically should support the CPU out of the box.

What Im getting at this point is why did the cpu only works at my mobo and not others.
*I have sold it 2 times and they always came up with no post at their system

I'm really confused as this is definitely not a Bios related problem, is there anyway that my mobo saved its settings to my CPU as I no longer have a clue on what's going on.. Please help. Thx

(My customer have tested it with working Ram, GPU)

Well you never ultimately know how they've configured the rest of their set up - whilst I suspect it wouldn't make much difference, I wonder if resetting their CMOS would help.

An easier way to tell would be to test it on another MB yourself.

Should run ,CPU didn't save settings. I built one a few years ago for my youngest son and INSTALLED THE 4170 with no issues so it should run.
Thanks for the reply.

That is just what I thought. I don't know what could be causing the CPU to not boot at others since mine is a relatively generic mobo that doesn't have any problems. This has happened 2 times to my customer (yes, the same i3) and their motherboard isn't some crappy mobo with outdated bios. But because it only happens to boot at my system I wonder if there are some settings / configuration related to only my mobo.

Well I cant say for sure but looks like cmos isn't the case. I couldn't try with other mobos myself because i only have one that works perfectly fine with the i3 and is currently my personal rig. thanks
